Although much better known as a songwriter and performer, Leonard Cohen started his career as a popular Canadian poet. This volume is one I would recommend as a good overview of his work and a wonderful introduction to a "beautiful loser". He wrestles constantly with the twin angels of sex and spiritualism; his words dance off the page and into your heart.
This book also contains generous samplings of his early books like "Beautiful Losers" and "Flowers For Hitler". Cohen manages to straddle the line between emotional intensity and sheer intellectualism. This collection will allow one to examine a great, often times obscure career. In my humble opinion, It is some of the best English language poetry of the 20th Century.
