Baking Soda.....Granny Knew Best!

Who knew your Granny was a "green" cleaner all along? If we take a step back in time, I bet we don't remember our grandparents storing 8 bottles of random household cleaners under their kitchen sinks, now do we? In fact, past generations knew a thing or two about using green and affordable cleaners around the house (and they actually did get the job done). Over the years (and most notably when I became a Mother) I have begun to use baking soda to clean a plethora of things around my home.

Make cleaning in an environmentally safe way simple by breaking out the old household supplies. My favorite cleaner, baking soda!

I love that it can celan so many things (and clean them well). Next time you need to get one of these jobs done, put down the green can and pick up the baking soda (a few of my favorite uses):

-Scrub out your sink- just sprinkle, scrub, rejoice!

- Greasy dinner dishes? Sprinkle a bit of baking soda on the bottom of your dishwasher and the greasy grime will be cut in the first wash cycle, before your detergent even starts it's thing. For cast iron pans that don't go in the dishwasher, sprinkle with baking soda and give them a quick scrub.

-Smelly sponge?? Sprinkle a tsp of baking soda after a heavy use and simply rinse it out.

-White sneakers not so white anymore? Simply make a paste of baking soda and water and scrub, now that's simple!

-Water stains on wooden floors can be removed with a sponge dampened in a solution of baking soda dissolved in water.

-Crayon  marks on walls? Try applying baking soda/water paste on an old toothbrush and lightly brush the marked area ( I have done this- it works).

I've been using baking soda for three things: cooking, removing stains from clothing, and to keep my fridge smelling fresh, but wow, I didn't know it had so many other uses, so thanks for the suggestions!

Honestly, I've never thought about using baking soda before (maybe that says something about how much I clean), but I'm definitely going to try it the next time I make a mess!

a MUST have in our home. We use it all the time from baking to cleaning and Deodorizing. Plus always handy when it comes to kid's science projects. Definitely has helped keep the Cat Odor at bay in the litter box room
