First and foremost I must say that I am a Community coffee lover.  I drink Community pretty much daily except on the rare weekend where I sleep in and head into town late in the morning.  On these days, I treat myself to the pricey guilty pleasure that is my favorite frozen coffee drink:  the Starbucks Frappuccino.

Yes, I do believe that Starbucks' coffees are overpriced and overrated.  However, I have yet to find a frappuccino that can top Starbucks' offering.

Many competitors have tried to duplicate or better Starbucks' formula, but they've all failed.  Only Coffee Beanery's frappalattes come close to matching the frappuccino from Starbucks.  McDonald's entered the fray with their own version, called the frappe, but despite being one of the cheapest fraps on the market, the Golden Arches fails due to a lack of consistency in their drinks (primarily due to employee effort).

Starbucks offers a number of frappuccinos, including caramel and java chip among others.  My personal favorite is the caramel frappuccino.  According to the Starbucks website, the caramel frappuccino has 390 calories of which 130 are from fat.  Sure, that's not the healthiest thing in the world, but when it comes to sweet treats, the Starbucks' Caramel Frappuccino is tough to beat.

I used to drink them several times a month until I learned about the calorie count in them. Now I realize how much of a cost savings it is to live without them. I still agree with you that this is a great tasting beverage.

I love fraps, too! If they weren't so.... unhealthy, I'd drink 'em all the time! I'll have to try Coffee Beanery's version. Another one that I like is Peet's Frappes.  Mmm, your review has me jonesin' for one of these!  By the way, I don't know if you know about the Coffee Shop community, but I think your review would fit great in there.  Thanks for sharing!

Good yes, good for you, no. Caffeine and sugar are 2 of the most detrimental elements in our society. Every now and then? No problem. Just don't make these a habit.

I'm happy that Starbucks has upped the anti on their Frappachino's. With so many chains coming up with their versions it's refreshing to see that Starbucks again takes the lead by changing up their formula to allow a person to have a frappachino made your way.      You can have soy, non fat milk, sugar free, anyway, you like it which is great if your trying to watch your calorie and fat content. I like the fact that I can have a sweet treat and not be sugared out. …

Wiki

Frappuccino is a registered trademark of Starbucks and is the name of a blended ice beverage and of a bottled coffee beverage.

A frozen coffee drink similar to Starbucks's Frappuccino was invented by The Coffee Connection, a Boston-based chain with 24 stores mostly around New England, who coined and trademarked Frappuccino. When Starbucks bought the Coffee Connection, they acquired the rights.  However, the original recipe was completely different, and had a unique preparation process and simple ingredients.

The etymology of the term is unclear. Frappuccino is a combination of frappe and cappuccino, an Italian style coffee with a topping of frothed milk. It is unclear whether frappe is taken from frappé a Greek iced coffee or from the New England term for a thick milkshake frappe (pronounced "frap"), both of which derived from the French word frappé.

Similar frozen coffee drinks were served starting in 1988 by the Seattle chain Cinnabon under the names Mochalatta and Caramelatta. Dunkin' Donuts serves a similar drink called Coolatta.

In the Philippines, most coffee shops sell similar drinks which are often called generically frappes, pronounced in a French manner with two syllables, or frap.  Coffee Break is one.  Gloria Jeans offers a similar frozen coffee drink but calls them Chillers.
