Do you know what Turkish Delights are?
For those who had been to Turkey, you definitely would know what they are. Outside Turkey though, the most famous and commonly known cuisine from this part of the world has to be the Kebab (or Kebap).

But first, let me introduce some Turkish Delights to you before the main course.
Turkish Delight is a kind of snack where most tourists will buy to bring home for friends and families. One can buy them almost everywhere in Turkey though I was told majority are very sweet. Priced at around US$5 for each box, it has many different types of fillings like hazelnuts, pistachio nuts or peanuts. Some are mint flavored while others are orange flavored. Personally, I like those with pistachio nuts :-)



KEBAP (Roast Meat) is fun, esp. the ones that are served at the firepit. Kebapci is a person who cooks kebap. There are many restaurants & fast food serving sis kebap in Turkey. Take your pick, chances are no matter where you eat, they are great! The Turks usually eat them with salad & ayran (a yogurt mixed with spring water).





Surprise! We were served fish kebab as well! This indicates how much the Turks love the kebab. It comes in all kinds of meat & taste! Amazing! & they taste great as well!

I mentioned about having Ayran with Kebap. So, what's ayran?

Well, it's Turkey's version of yogurt. It's supposed to be good for health. TRL750,000 to TRL1.5 m, depending on where one gets it. 



The one I tried was much lighter than the conventional yogurt, somewhat like skim milk texture but with a little salty taste to it. Some of my traveling companions love it while others don't think much of it. Personally, I prefer yogurt though I may not have tried the best.

So, when in a Turkish restaurant next time, try some Ayran with your Kebab and finish off the meal with some Turkish Delights!

Whoa, does the food in the first picture taste anything like mochi? Because that's what it looks like! And that yogurt drink looks tasty, too. Yummy review, Sharrie! :)

Hi Sharrie....interesting review and some very appetizing pics of food. I'll be in Turkey next year, and will have to give some of these delights a try!

Kebab (or Kebap) refers to a variety of grilled meat dishes in Turkey, Israel, Central Asia, South Asia or African cuisines. Most common ones include lamb and beef. Sometimes, chicken, fish or other shellfish may be used too. Due to religious practice, Muslim countries do not use pork in their Kebab. Pork Kebab can be found in UK, Inida, Georgia, Greece, Bulgaria and Armenia though.
