I will be the first to admit that I like OXO products and have quite a number of them around. I have yet to be disappointed in any of them. I will also be the first to admit that I do not like change all that much and have fought the good fight in trying to keep my old bristle brushes I have been so fond of. Well I finally broke down and bought one of these things for pastry.
Now I have been using a silicone brush on our outside gas grill and must admit to liking it. Why I did not want to use it on indoor cooking I do not know. Anyway....
This is an excellent brush. As the OXO company tells you, the way these things are designed it holds the liquid longer on the brush than other brands. This particular brush feels perfect in the hand and has a very nice balance to it. Since I do all the dishwashing in our family, I like something that I can stick into the dishwasher and not have to worry about it. This brush cleans up very nice.
I have used this for about a year now. In using the natural bristle brushes I would go through several in a year's time as they washed poorly, retained odors, lost bristles and were constantly clumping up. No problems with this brush in any of those areas. I figure I am getting a better job done and saving money at the same time.
Love this brush. The price here is about two dollars less expensive that what I paid for it at a local retail story.
Leave it to OXO to perfect the pastry brush. Silicone always beats natrual bristles because you don't end up with bristles stuck in your food and you can thoroughly clean the brush. Put it in the dishwasher if you want. Try that with a natural bristle brush and you will have a clumpy mess on your hands. The downside of silicone brushes is that they don't hold the liquid very well. OXO has solved this by adding a layer of silicone between the bristles that suspends the liquid. … more

The OXO Good Grips Silicone Pastry Brush will not retain odors, nor clump during cleaning. A unique bristle design helps the brush perform better than the standard. Multiple layers of silicone bristles feature gaps in the center to hold liquids better as they are transferred from bowl to food. Tapered outer bristles allow for brushing delicate pastries with ease. The silicone bristles are heat resistant to 600 degrees F, and the angled brush head keeps bristles off the countertop. A soft comfortable grip makes it a joy to baste. The brush is a must-have tool for a well-stocked cook. It's safe and easy to clean in the dishwasher.
