I love Berkeley for its wide selection of quality foods and sweets to indulge upon, but there is one local place that just recently opened that definitely takes the cake. Tara's Organic Ice Cream shop is located on College Avenue, a quaint little street lined with small shops and places to spend money.
From the lighting to the decoration to the customer service, this place is really a gem. The best thing, however, is the level of indisputable quality of the ice cream. Tara, the owner, makes all of the ice cream herself from her own homemade recipes with only natural ingredients. And the flavors are unique, rich and taste amazing.
There are some flavors that might make the less adventurous sweet-eater a little nervous like basil, sweet corn or goat cheese raspberry but all of the different kinds of ice cream are sweet and incredibly delicious. I myself got to taste-test two different amazing flavors and indulge in a full serving of two. The Tasmanian honey, lavender, egg nog and mexican chocolate flavors are out of this world. They are creamy and perhaps the best thing about them is that you can actually taste what is in it.
And as if that's not good enough, this place is almost entirely green with compostable cups, pints and quarts, as well as recycleable napkins, bags and paper towels. This is an excellent place worth spending your money at and for those who cannot just walk right in, you can order directly from her website: http://www.tarasorganic.com/
