These TJs Nuts About Antioxidants bars are officially my 'almost perfect' snack pick. 'Almost' because they don't taste quite perfect to me, there is too much or too little of something in them. Cranberries? Maybe. Too much tartness? Perhaps. A little too sour? Regardless I find myself coming back to these bars every time I am looking for a wholesome snack at Trader Joe's.
First, I discovered Go Rah bars when they cost $0.99 for 6 bars (!). They were perfect in every way. That was really cheap, I always took three boxes and snacked on them throughout my pregnancy while working. I never understood why they were not the same price as the different flavor Savory and Tart Trail Mix Bar. Well, then they somehow secretly read my mind and my devotion to that bar was abruptly cut short. They entirely disappeared from the shelves, they stopped selling them for good (something Trader Joe's is good at doing regularly). Then when I thought they magically appeared again, I realized that those are the different Nuts About Antioxidants bars at $1.99 for a box of six. Yet still that is cheaper than your average grocery store 'so sweet with HFCS I could gag' bars. After a short Go Rah-less vacation I went back and bought Nuts About Antioxidants, still a good deal at that price. The ingredients are also not as objectionable as many other bars you'll meet. It has brown rice syrup instead of corn syrup. In addition there are extra antioxidants added (vitamin E, ascorbic acid, and natural beta carotene).
These are great for anyone with milk allergies. Usually snack bars contain some sort of milk ingredient like whey. These don't have any such thing. If you have nut allergies don't try these though! Nuts About Antioxidants bars have almonds in them. If you don't like cranberries, don't try these - their taste comes through pretty strong. If you do like some lightly tart and sour taste, then these are for you.
I am still waiting for Trader Joe's to either a) Bring back Go Rah bars b) Start selling a bar that EcoMama thinks is perfect in every way :)
