Are you all familiar with my Trader Joe's obsession by now? If you share the love you should check in every couple of weeks for new reviews of their products by moi! There is no end in sight to more delicious foodie goodies as they constantly introduce new products...
So, on to the Blueberry Preserves! Yes, they are Trader Joe's brand - so expect great quality and an unbeatable price. You'll find them near the sugar, maple syrup, and peanut butter (at least in my store). There are also various flavors, I have tried this one, blackberry, peach, and raspberry. They are all equally great tasting and I don't really have a preference.
Taste: Oh, my! The first time I tried this I was floored, so subtle, yet vibrant, not too much sugar, not too little. You can tell the ingredients are high quality, as if handpicked from your own fruit and veggie garden. I was always turned off by regular grocery store preserves (like Smuckers) because they are way too sweet for my taste, not to mention the actual berries are not the first ingredient in many, but HFCS is. I'm not paying my hard earned money for corn, I want berries! This is a refreshing contrast and can be compared to top of the line, expensive, imported European preserves. It can also compete with both my grandmothers' recipes any day!
Consistency: There are no whole berries in this, it is more like a jam, but not like jelly. At the same time it is not runny, so it does not 'run' off your toast, bagel, or English muffin. Just right.
Value: The price is $3.69 for 18 ounces. Keep in mind that these are organic blueberries. I can guarantee you will not find a better deal than that. You'll probably pay around $4.49+ for something like this at Whole Foods. You simply won't find something comparable at a regular grocery store.
EcoMama Green Factor: It is organic, packaged in glass, what more could you want? +5
