As mentioned in another review, I have been really enjoying rice lately and I have found Uncle Ben's Ready Rice to be something that works terrific! They are easy to carry with me to work and I don't have to mess with a lunch bag, ice, etc. Just carry the rice pouch and lunch is served!
It takes only 90 seconds to warm up, and it gets very hot. The pouch has little built in "cool spots" for you to grab the bag out of the microwave and not burn yourself. I have gotten burnt by one of the bags by grabbing too low and I can say that the rice get very hot and the cool spots help keep you from rambling a string of bad words together while shaking your hand because you burnt your fingers! (Which, in my case helps a LOT because I have a 6 year old just wanting to learn a series of bad words that she can lash out at unsuspecting 1st graders!)
The previous rice reviewed had a tremendous amount of sodium. I think those watching their sodium intake will be very pleased with this rice because, per serving, the sodium is only 15mg or 1% of your total daily intake (based upon a standard 2,000 calorie diet).
I really enjoyed the ease of prepartion and I truly enjoyed the flavor. The whole grain brown rice has a bit more robust flavor than white rice, but not a strong as the whole grain wild rices that you might be familiar with. The color is just a bit tan or light brown and the package does claim this helps support a healthy heart. So, if you are looking for foods to use to enhance a meal at home, or even in the case of a quick, easy, not fast food lunch at work, this might be a terrific option. The rice is all natural and it gives you a full daily requirement of whole grains! The calories are low too, if you are concerned about those. If you eat the whole 8.8 ounce package of rice, you will take in about 480 calories. But, you are getting some folate and niacin and thiamin plus some fiber.
Eating healthier doesn't have to be bland, especially if you have this rice on hand. Enjoy!

Directions Just heat and enjoy! 1. Squeeze pouch to separate rice. 2. Tear to vent. 3. Heat on High for 90 seconds. Cooking time for 2 pouches - 135 seconds. Microwave times may vary. Take care when handling and opening the hot pouch. Refrigerate unused portion. In the skillet: 1. Gently squeeze the sides of the pouch to break apart the rice and pour contents into a skillet. 2. Add 2 tbsp of water and heat. 3. Stir rice occasionally until heated thoroughly. 4. Serve immediately.
