Here's the thing: The Ace is for a very specific person. That person is a 20 to 30 something partier. They are either in college or miss college and plan to hook up, drink and have a raging good time.
I am not that person, so perhaps the Ace wasn't the best choice for me. I was stuck in Palm Springs for the night, having drank a little more than I should have at a house party. Several fellow guests were staying at the Ace and I asked if the rooms were nice. In the future, I shouldn't accept a simple "yes" as an answer. The rooms are kitchy- which I wouldn't say matches my vision of a "nice" room. It felt a little like I was staying in the dorm room of a sexual confused hipster. Why was there a picture of a boy at his bar mitzav hanging from a binder clip above my bed? That $150 robe listed on the minibar menu--- oh! That's the crumpled piece of thin cotton hanging on my wall that I thought was laundry left by a previous guest. Just really not my style.
The Good: ***Killer minibar. Yeah, it's expensive but it's a minibar- it's supposed to be expensive. ***Great wifi- had no connection problems at all. ***Really comfy pillows ***AMAZING room service breakfast. I had the lox & bagel AND the pot of fruit. Both were fantastic. ***Bath amenities smelled great
The Bad: ***My bed was super lumpy! Totally uncomfortable. I was tossing & turning all night. ***The "curtains" (what was that? Canvas? Sails?) let in way too much light even when tightly closed. Couple that with bright lights in the parking lot I faced and it was like it was dawn all night. ***The coffee was crazy weak and tasted awful. ***The bedside "lamps" (that I swear looked like vibrators) didn't work at all. ***A cowhide rug? Really? Gross! ***There were multiple red wine stains on my "duvet" (again- apparently a sail or canvas of some sort) ***The cushion that literally surrounded half my room had crusted dirt or something in several spots
I should specify that this was not a busy weekend. No holidays or local events. I walked in at almost midnight and got a room, so there's really no excuse for the stains and such. They just clearly don't deep clean well.
The staff was hit-or-miss. The girl who checked me in was clearly stressed even though I was the only one at the desk. Apparently police were being called due to an issue in the bar. I got lost looking for my room and a maid was super helpful and walked me through the laundry area to point me in the right direction. Everyone else seemed like they were just trying to get through the day. To be fair, it was really humid and I imagine carrying room service trays around or lugging cleaning supplies all over the hotel couldn't have been fun.
Overall, I personally wouldn't stay here again. I can't imagine who I'd recommend it for either, unless I didn't care if my younger cousins have sex with strangers in a pool.
