Affordable and Accessible Motel 6 in The Valley

On a recent trip to LA, I was out of a place to stay one night- long story short, I was working an event that didn't get out until 4a and by the time I got to my friend's house, he was passed out and his cell didn't ring. I already had a Plan B ready to go- Motel 6 Hollywood. There were great reviews and it was cheap and easy to get to but, it was sold out as was every other hotel in Hollywood. I was beyond exhausted at this point but, figured I'd better head out of Hollywood and decided on Van Nuys, in "The Valley". It was toward the direction I needed to go the next day and more importantly, it had an available room.

When I got there, the front desk clerk, Raj, informed me that he was going to give me an additional discount, since I was only going to be there for 6 hours and an extra hour for checkout time, "so that you can get more sleep". Thank you, thank you, thank you...heaven to my exhausted ears. At this point, $72 was worth it for me to be safe and my car to be safe.

They had plenty of tourist info and they had a couple of vending machines which I thought were a nice addition for late night cravings. The elevator was pretty old but, it worked. I got to my room and it was OK. The decor looked a little dated but, at that point, I just wanted to sleep. The sheets had two small stains on them, I have no idea what it could've been but, you'd hope that they'd either bleach the sheets or toss them if they're stained. The bed itself was squeaky and definitely not a pillow top or a comfortable mattress. I just told myself to get over it and at least I wasn't sleeping in the car.

The next morning when I woke, I noticed that there wasn't any coffee maker or tea. I wanted to take a shower to wake me up a bit before I hit the road and they didn't have any shampoo, conditioner or lotion. They did have soap, so I opted for a quick shower and no clean hair, luckily I was only going to be in the car all day and by myself.

I liked this place for what it was a safe place to sleep for a few hours that was affordable, accessible (on Sepulveda Blvd, off the 405) and had excellent customer service. Would I bring the hubby or anyone hear to stay when in the area? Probably not- I like clean sheets, comfy mattresses and amenities.

the only time I used them was many years ago...so yes, their sheets weren't too good....

Yeah, not so much! Some of them are quite clean and nice but, I didn't get one of those ;p The one in SB is nice because it was renovated, in case you're interested!

I always carry a small personal items kit for the road.

Always a good idea! I had thought I was going to stay with friends but, I did have some essentials like make up and lotion. Next time, I'll have to add shampoo and conditioner to that.
