I'm writing this QT from my room at Songtsam Retreat in Shangri-la. It's part of the Accor hotel chain and is the 2nd most expensive hotel in Shangri-la. The most expensive being Banyan Tree. However, this is locally owned and managed by the locals. I think they are doing a great job & I've indeed enjoyed my stay here. The hotel is situated about 5 mins from the monastery & has a marvelous spa which is not over priced. What is worth mention is its Tibetan & Western restaurants which serve truly great food!

Shangri-la ??? - Hmm isn't that a fictional place ?

No. It's not fictional. In Mandarin, it is Xianggelila (香格里拉). It is in Yunnan Province and it also known by two other name, Diqing & Zhongdian. There are quite a few Europeans who traveled here. I met some from France & Belgium on this trip :-)

A Quick Tip by Sharrie

Other than Banyan Tree, this is the other resort that has Spa facility in Shangri-la (aka Xianggelila). Rooms ranging from Standard to Suites. All suites have fireplace which is kinda great considering the cool weather in Shangri-la. I love the restaurant in this resort too. Excellent meals including the Yak steamboat & western cuisine like seared tuna salad. Prices are very affordable. Excellent choice.
