50's Prime Time Cafe: Fun times and Good Food with a Birthday Surprise

  • Jun 29, 2010

50's Prime Time Cafe is in Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, Florida.  This is a table service restaurant that takes you back in time to your mom's kitchen in 1950! The decorations are from the time period along with many televisions playing old sitcoms from the era.  The food makes you feel like you are having a down-home meal and the wait-staff act as if they are your parents, going as far as disciplining you if necessary!

I had gone here a few years ago and had a fun time, so I thought that it would be fun to take my boyfriend to lunch here for his birthday.  Him and I both love the atmosphere, feeling like you have stepped back in time. We sat down at our table and were ready for the interactive experience that we had heard of before, I even had the video camera out ready!

Unfortunately our experience started out on a bad note, our waitress did not seem very interactive at all.  Most of the wait-staff would interact and be loud and obnoxious with their table.  Our waitress did not really seem to want to do this, upsetting us a bit because that is what we came to the restaurant for. Eventually she did seem to lighten up a bit, yelling at my boyfriend once to get his elbows off the table, but it just was not what we had expected. The whole restaurant seemed quieter than we had expected.

Besides our less than interactive experience, the food was exceptional! It really does feel like mom cooked the meal for you! My boyfriend had the chicken pot pie and I had the roast beef, both come with good portions and are perfect for a lunch meal.

At the end of the meal, my boyfriend and I did not get dessert, but because we were celebrating his birthday, the waitress brought out a cupcake with a candle in it for him.  She made him stand up and hold the cupcake while the entire restaurant sang "Happy Birthday" to him! It was hilarious and fun and kind of made up for her earlier lack of fun.

Overall, I think it was just a bad day for our waitress and would definitely go back to 50's Prime Time Cafe again! The food and the atmosphere definitely make it worth it.

Chris embarrassed after being sang to!

Although it's been a while since our visit to 50's Prime Time our experience was also good, but not the great time I had heard about from others. But I'd like to try it again.

At Disney's Hollywood Studios you can have a real dining experience that transports you back to the 50's into the world of Mom's Kitchen and when the TV was still a relatively new invention.  The 50's Prime Time Cafe combines detailed theming to go with a menu filled with comfort food and family favorites like Fried Chicken and Meatloaf. "TV at your table" The 50's Prime Time Cafe is certainly not your typical restaurant.  You get that sense before …
