A science fiction movie directed by James Cameron

The other movies after this one mostly suck....mostly.

Aliens is the only other movie in the Alien canon to have any real impact before the series grossly ran out of steam and imported the Predator to keep movies being made.

Picking up nearly 60 years after the first film, Ripley the lone survivor of the previous movies ordeal has awoken from her space sleep only to find her being questioned for the loss of the ship in the first film.  The Company board doesn't believe her stories of the Alien and suspends her flight license.  Ripley learns that during her hibernation, the planet that the Alien was found on has been colonized and no reports of the Alien have ever been made.  Not too much later, shock beyond shock the colony has cut off contact and the Company sends in a marine squad to investigate the matter and want Ripley along as an advisor.  Ripley at first is hesitant as shes having nightmares about the creature and can't sleep.  If she does go, she can get her licesne back and it can prove a good way for her to face her fears.

Arriving at the colony the marines investigate an abandonned town and find a little girl who somehow has survived the Aliens.  The girl attaches herslef to Ripley as the rest of the Marines look for any survivors.  WIth survivors however comes Aliens and after heavy casualties the marines decide to evacuate but that has difficulties too.  Getting off the planet and out of harms way makes up the rest of the movie.

Aliens is probably the most infamous of it's Sci FI action films with a "DIrectors Cut" since the Directors cut was made several years before George Lucas made it fashionable and dangerous for your movie's impact.  The difference is that the additional scenes work and strengthen the story and enriches Ripley's relationships with a couple of characters, in other words, it's a Special Edition that is indeed special.  James Cameron made the same thing with Terminator 2 years later and while not quite as effective, is another example.

Aliens isn't as scary as the first film and it's suspense is still here in small doses.  What it lacks in the previous films art deco and style it definetely has more action at it's side.  Guns are a blaz'in and destroy plenty of those Alien beasts to smithereens.  The characters may not all be strong as the previous one but of the original platoon sent it, the survivors are at least standouts from what movies years later would give us in terms of soldier grunt personality.  Bill Paxton is the stand out as a nattering tech private.

Aliens is certainly the last of the good Alien movies and while they all have their moments, their tiers are on a lower plateau to this and the first film.  It's too bad that the Alien and Predator movies came out years later and helped hurt the francise more afterword because it's rumored James Cameron was talking about coming back to do another Alien film.  You know what he said when he heard the news about AvP?

The other movies after this one mostly suck....mostly.

Great review man, this is another great film.

This was enjoyable and fun to watch! Of course it diverted from the original's claustrophobic atmosphere but fun anyway! Have you seen its special edition? The one other sequel I kind of liked is the director's cut of "Alien Resurrection"...almost 35 minutes longer, much better. Great review!

Yes I have. I mention it a little bit here in the review but either one is good, the special edition is better though.

oh, yeh. I see that now. I actually meant for all of the 4 Alien films...their extended cuts are better. Oh, maybe except for Alien 3...

DUDE. Alien 3 had the BEST of the updates. Alien was fun to have the scenes in but the original I perfer. Aliens for me is the opposite the special edition is better and ALien 3 is supremely better. ALien Resurection is alright.

**** out of ****    If Ridley Scott's "Alien" will always be remembered as the film to introduce us to the Xenomorph and franchise favorite, the heroine Ripley (Sigourney Weaver); then James Cameron's "Aliens" will be forever known as the truly rare sequel that really, really could. With sequels to great movies, it can be tempting to bank on the previous film's success; but instead Cameron shows a general interest in expanding on the universe while developing a story of his own …

The best of the Alien stable. Saw the Director's cut again recently. It wasn't as sharp as the original, but if you love the original it's hard to resist seeing some new scenes, some additional backstory. Brilliant alien. Fantastic female role.

I can't really rate this film high enough.   In fact this film has ingrained itself in my heart so much I even undertook the arduous task of sampling the mothership computer sound and turning it into my iPhone text alert sound.

Follow up to Alien has Ripley awaking 57 years later to go on a rescue mission with Marines to destroy the Aliens. Awesome in many ways.

The quintessential sci-fi movie with visuals that look just as good today changed sci-fi forever. A classic.

Aliens is the follow up to the first film. Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is in trouble. Not only is the corporation's multi-million dollar spaceship is gone but so is the crew. To add to her worries, she's missed a lot of time during her last trip. With no one willing to listen to her ramblings and a whole lot of explaining to do, Ripley is stuck between a rock and a hard place. That is until the corporation gives her an offer she cannot refuse.    All though it's not as well directed …

Up front, I must state that Aliens is my all time favorite science fiction movie. The action is intense and scary and unlike many science fiction movies, the personalities of the characters are as important as the futuristic aspects. The DVD version has 17 additional minutes of footage and unlike some expanded versions where the extra is little more than padding, each additional frame significantly adds to the story.   We see the colonists going about their lives, Newt's parents are the …

Alien's is one of the most refreshing action film's that I've seen in a long time. It has all of the pieces needed to create a dazzling example of fine form and just plain slick wizadry.Ripley awakens after being discovered in a decades old sleap. She is greeted upon awakening by "Mad about you" Paul Reiser, who shows he has more dirt under his fingernails than most think. After an entire colony of settler's disappear, Ripley is cohersed into returning to the planet which caused all of the problems …

About this movie

Ellen Ripley, the sole survivor of the alien attack on the mining ship Nostromo, awakens half a century later when she is found by a salvage ship. The welcome given to her by the "Company" officials is far from warm, since they refuse to believe her discovery of alien existence and strip her off her flight officer's license.

Ripley also discovers, much to her horror, that the planet LV-426 where her crew had encountered an alien species for the first time, is now colonized by the company. But when all contact from the planet is lost Ripley is called back into action again as an advisor to a team of tough space marines with lots of firepower.

To get rid of her recurrent nightmares about the alien creature, Ripley prepares for a final battle with the monsters - and this time, there are hundreds of them out there. Written by Soumitra
