Marvel Heroes, Move Over. Black Dynamite is Here.

Superman, Batman, Spiderman and Ironman are cool. Kick-ass, even. But they don't have what Black Dynamite has: melanin. And because "Black Dynamite" has it, and because he has a mean 'fro, and because he has a hardened 'fro mustache that hides his smile (and he is smiling, ladies), and because he wields a nasty pistol, Black Dynamite is just that much more cooler than any of Marvel's pasty-white super heroes.

Sure, Black Dynamite doesn't have super powers. He doesn't need them. A bullet in the shoulder from an assault weapon does little more than cause him to flinch -- almost the same as if the bullet had refelcted off his chiseled body. And chiseled it is ladies.

Sure, Black Dynamite doesn't have a secret identity. Doesn't need one. We don't even know his real name. Even his mama, on her death bed, refers to him as "Black Dynamite." BD doesn't need a "slave name"...he's Black. And he's Dynamite. He's Black Dynamite. Period.

Spiderman lost his uncle. Batman, his parents. Superman, his planet. But Black Dynamite...he lost his brother Jimmy. To drugs. Worse, these same drugs have leaked into an Orphanage -- and Black Dynamite was an orphan! Now they're going to pay!!! Whose are "they" you ask: The pimps. The drug dealers. The "Chinamen" from Viet Nam...and, yes, even those White Men at the The White House. Take cover...Black Dynamite is about to blow!

What a movie. Hysterical..in all the worse ways and best ways. While Black Dynamite lampoons the blaxploitation movies of the 70s, I couldn't help comparing him to a marvel superhero. I can only hope that BD evolves into one. I think as a comic he'd be hysterical and addictive. Or maybe they need to turn him into an animated series, like the Boondocks.

Anyway, if you're looking for a guilty pleasure then look no further than Black Dynamite. As much as I want to say that it is bad ass, it's just bad. So bad that its good.

Just saw this and I agree it's so funny, I love the over the top corny dialog and bad cinematography the Funky music and all the blaxploitation cliches. I saw Black Belt Jones as a teenager here in Reykjavik and loved it and this movie send that one up so well. Certainly not a film to take seriously but if you want hillarious satire I'd reccomend it.

I grew up in my teens watching a lot of classic blaxploitation and I've been dying to see this on DVD. Looks like a hilariously politically incorrect film. I wonder if BET would ever pick this up as a TV show?

I haven't watched BET in quite awhille. But I do rewatch my episodes of The Boondocks which informs me (to whatever extent that an animation is informative) that BET will air just about anything these days – for Better or for Worse, but mostly for the Worse. ;-)

Black Dynamite is an awesome homage to the grindhouse films. If you enjoyed Machete then you must see this one. The movie was shot on film and stars Michael Jai White as Black Dynamite, a smooth kung-fu fighter/Pimp/Community activist/CIA Agent who battles "The Man" and his evil plan to emasculate the black male community. Black Dynamite is is mix of Black Belt Jones, Shaft, Slaughter, Dolemite and Hammer. Highly recommended!
