Why do people like this film?

  • Jan 3, 2011
People enjoy this classic because of the remarkable relationship between Cassidy and the Kid. The story is by no means unique, so it is their interaction that draws viewers. The two, especially Cassidy, have a childlike happy relationship, without any jealousy, and they approach everything with wide-eye delight, wonderment, and fun. The Kid's girl friend is friendly to both although only intimate with the Kid, and this causes no tension. She is the mature party among the trio. All of this is subtle. If it were overplayed, it would lose its charm. Butch's and the Kid's comments on their situations, even when they are facing possible death, make them very likeable. Even the people they rob and the lawmen see them as "affable."
