Maggie the cat is alive. And Elizabeth Taylor brings her to life in the classic Tennessee Williams story. Elizabeth and Tennessee Williams seem to bring out the best in each other once again in this film as they also did in Suddenly, Last Summer. Elizabeth in her white slip trying to capture the attention of her impotent husband is one of movies unforgettable images. Elizabeth deserved an Oscar for this film in my opinion. Once again Williams theme of homosexuality were toned down for the movie, but much like Sudden, Last Summer if you listen closely and follow the story there is no real question what is going on in Maggie and Bricks marriage. Paul Newman has seldom been better. Burl Ives is also impressive as Big Daddy in this film.
