Cats and Dogs was a loser film

 • Jul 18, 2001
Pros: animals! Lots of cats and Dogs!

Cons: Stupid movie - bad acting and plot

The Bottom Line: OK if you are a little kid - then maybe you won't notice bad acting, script and special effects!!

Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.

Went to see this honker with mixed family - mother and sister thinking it would be kind of a cutesy family film. We all left mid way through. It's bad when a Mom can't stomach something that is supposed to be a family film.

What went wrong? First the dogs and cats. Most of them were real but there were others that were so fake and looked it! The special effects were pretty bad too.

The movie is aimed squarely at kids so maybe that was the problem. It was just to smarmy and the Jeff Goldblum was quite simply the pits!

We left after about an hour of this clunker. I would recomend it to kids under 10 and then only if they weren't too clever.

Sorry Cats & Dogs

I like its idea of a war between cats and dogs that are secretly more technologically advanced than we are, and a lot of cleverness went into the situations, but the dialog is a bit corny. There's a load of great acting talent, but their main instruction seems to have been to ham it up for the kids. I'm not particularly fond of the animations …

About this movie

In the outrageous comedy CATS & DOGS, Professor Brody (Jeff Goldblum) is on the verge of discovering a chemical formula that would give humans immunity to dog allergies, making dogs the clear favorite of humans over cats, their age-old enemies. When a power-mad white Persian cat named Mr. Tinkles (voiced by Sean Hayes) decides to kidnap the professor and his family and attempt to reverse the formula, making all humans allergic to dogs, canine operative Butch (voiced by Alec Baldwin) and young, hapless recruit Lou (voiced by Tobey Maguire) must stop Mr. Tinkles's nefarious plans.

Blending live action with realistic puppetry and seamless computer animation, CATS & DOGS reveals an amusingly secretive world of talking felines and canines where cats parachute out of stealth planes in night-vision goggles and dogs operate hi-tech computer equipment. And in one of the film's most stunning sequences, a Russian mercenary kitten attacks the Brody household with an arsenal of weapons including plastic ex...
