A 2009 stop motion animated fantasy film directed by Henry Selick.
< read all 27 reviews I personally enjoyed this film, though my son refused to continue watching it, just for the mere fact of the dark eeriness that surrounds it. The director, Henry Selick, is much more like Tim Burton than I expected, though I believe they've worked together in the past. However, since I enjoy Tim Burton movies, I enjoyed Coraline. However, I would not recommend it to you if you don't have a humor or artistic appreciation similar to that of Burton's because Coraline is right up that alley.
The graphics are dark, dreary and a bit scary, sometimes reminding me of James and the Giant Peach. However, with this in mind, the graphics are also quite beautiful at times, especially since there was an element of imagination and fantasy revolving in Coraline's alternate world.
It was an entertaining movie, especially due to the graphic quality, which was interesting and ever changing. This, above all, is the reason for my good rating. Yes, the plot is substantial, though at some times odd and frightful, but the graphics are amazing. I enjoyed the voices of the characters, which fit well and were enticing to hear.
Overall, my main recommendation is going to be that if you like Selick or Burton-like films, this one is for you, but probably not your children.
