A Quick Tip by Sheri_in_Reho

As had already been proven by her appearance on the TV show Glee, it is clear that Gwyneth Paltrow can sing...I mean REALLY sing...not just make a show of it. I didn't go into this movie with high expectations because the critics hadn't been very kind, and perhaps that was a good thing--I actually enjoyed it a good bit more than I'd expected. Paltrow is good, if stereotypical, as Kelly, a beloved country singer whose alcoholism threatens to destroy both her career and her marriage. The characters played by Leighton Meester and Garret Hedlund are helpful in lightening things up so that there is a balance of sweet/funny and sad/tragic. Tim McGraw was perhaps best of all in his role as Kelly's husband and manager. While I am not a big country music fan, I really enjoyed the songs.

I don't think this would be my type of film; I doubt I'll see this before it hits HBO. I like Palthrow, and I liked her in Duets (was it?) Nice QT!

Country Somewhat Strong
