Pros: the acting was outstanding - even Farah for once
Cons: highly violent
Now here is a raw, chick-revenge flick that really gave me the willies, and I am not easily thrown by movies.
Farrah Fawcett, fluff extraordinaire, plays a little lady that makes a side trip for ice cream one night and is assaulted and raped. She goes to the police but discovers that since the man was masked and there were no witnesses, there is nothing they can do. So much for the justice system and sympathy. After all, had there been witnesses, they would have stopped the rape we assume.
Her assailant has taken her purse and has her wallet - so like a fool, we are dealing with a rapist here - the lack of intelligence already established - he shows up at her house and assaults her once again. In a fit of rage, Fawcett turns the tables on this idiot, as she should, and thoroughly thumps the bejesus outta him.
At this point though, I begin to loose a little respect for the film as I think they take the subject a little too far. This is just my opinion though, since I have never been in this circumstance, I do not know how I would really react.
Farah beats the man senseless, ties him up, stabs him, burns him with lye and shoves him in the open fireplace securing a bedframe over the opening so he cannot escape. Her roommates come home to find this battered shell cowering in the fireplace and a victorious Fawcett pacing the room trying to decide what to do with this evil piece of pultritude. He tries to convince them to let him go and they try to convince her to call the police.
A powerful and emotional film with a heavy overlay of violence both viewed through the victims eyes and the assailants eyes. Though you at first have pity for Fawcett, her lack of feeling and compassion toward her assailant leave you with a bad taste in your mouth. Perhaps this was the intention of the author, if so, it certainly works. Wonderful performance by Fawcett and James Russo, the rapist. Definitely not a film for the squeamish!
