"They drew first blood, not me!"

John Rambo, (Sylvester Stallone) a Vietnam veteran turned vagrant is wandering in the Northwest Mountains looking for an old army buddy.  His shaggy unkempt appearance and cold demeanor hasn't won him many friends in a nearby town called Hope.  The town's sheriff (Brian Dennehy) doesn't like him very much and escorts him out of the city limits warning him to keep out.  John doesn't heed his warning and tries to return back but his immediately arrested.  Inside the Sheriff's station, the hot headed chief deputy (Jack Starrett) tries to enforce his brutal methods upon John.  Being a battle weary and scarred veteran, John begins to have flashbacks and snaps.  After a violent tussle, he flees the station leaving several battered deputies and a lot of stunned townsfolk.  The Sheriff orders a city wide manhunt for John Rambo and wants him back.  Will they bring him back?  Does the Sheriff know who he's dealing with?  IS there a way to bring him back without further violence?  Co-stars Richard Crenna as Col. Trautman, Rambo's former superior officer and Chris Mulkey and David Caruso as deputies.

The film that started the Rambo series.  I really enjoyed this film.  One of Sylvester Stallone's better acting
roles.  He portrays John Rambo as a living and breathing person instead of some one dimensional character.  You'll sympathize with his plight and boo the hard headed Sheriff and his over eager deputies.  Richard Crenna excels in his role as Col. Trautman, the only man who can talk some sense into the crazy
veteran.  Based upon a novel written by David Morrell.  This filmed not only spawned a franchise but a series of Italian knock-offs and a cartoon show.

Highly recommended.

Johnny's Playroom is a Bunker Filled With Sand.
You always hear about in movies or other media about someone named Rambo being a bad ass or a tough guy.  He could very well be one of the greatest in movie history and you'd almost think his movies were nothing but gore fests and total mindless violence with no narrative or reason behind the meyhem.  The first film however, is pretty removed from that tag that is stuck on to the series.      John Rambo is a drifter who fought with honor in the Vietnam …

Troubled ex Green Beret gets harassed by small town sheriffs and wages war against them after he snaps from a bad flashback. Fantastic and tense movie starts slow and builds to a strong conclusion.
