Friday the 13th - More sex than murder. Very predictable

Friday the 13th had all of your typical characters; the rich frat boy with a bad attitude, the dorky kid with a crush on the promiscuious yet unattainable hottie, the sensitive hero guy, and the "party dude." My list is not exhaustive, but you get the point. The movie wasn't all bad. It did a good job of giving background information on Jason, his mom, and the camp counselor. The beginning was actually very promising, but then it began to drag. I quickly grew tired of the "sex, drugs and party" mentality. Yes, attractive 20 somethings like to party and have sex. We get it, and we didn't need a topless water skiing scene to remind us. (Besides, how painful would that be!?)

All of the murder scenes were WAY too predictable. I knew at least 5 minutes ahead of time who the next victim would be. Most of the characters were drunk, stoned or naked when they died. There were some good parts though. The "sensitive hero" (not a part of the partying vacationers) was on a mission to locate his missing sister. He teams up with the down to earth girl from the party group. Their part of the story is interesting and well written. These are the only times your heart rate accelerates, and the only times you don't know exactly what is going to happen next.  (There are two main places where the movie takes place; inside the 'party house' and outside in the woods.) The woods are MUCH more interesting.

The ending was very good. Not great, but very good.

** out of ****    I have always swam against the tides when it comes to Sean S. Cunningham's "classic" by-the-numbers slasher picture "Friday the 13th"; a film that is well-liked an widely-respected by a pretty solid number of horror fans, and despises by many critics including myself. I'm sorry, but if violence, nudity, simplicity, and dumb characters (not to mention the uninspired dialogue which they speak) makes a horror movie a good one; then this isn't the world I thought …

DECENT NEW JASON FLICK
FRIDAY THE 13TH      I have been a fan of this series since the original like most people and like most people I was skeptical of this remake/revision/sequel/prequel or what ever this one is, get to that later. The thing about this flick is that while it keeps a lot of the good stuff from the originals it tries to be kinda fresh or something but a lot times it just seems out of place. This is not a horrible movie and since it was shot here in Texas, …

Jason Vorhees is given new life in the reboot of Friday the 13th
Right off the bat, I have a confession.      I LOVE the Friday the 13th films.   They're a guilty pleasure of mine.   Being a child of the 80's the Friday and Nightmare on Elm Street series were the "go to" flicks for your horror hit.   Campy and charming, the Friday films have been chastised  and ridiculed by the movie going public for years.   Considered the low end of the horror movie spectrum, …

I have to say I am your average-casual ‘slasher' horror film fan, and while this genre of horror isn't exactly my favorite, murderous rampaging psychos always had their charm. After Rob Zombie's remake of "Halloween", we knew it would only be a matter of time until Hollywood re-imagined everybody's favorite hockey-masked murderer, Jason. 2009's "FRIDAY THE 13TH" is more of a reboot than a remake. The film is co-produced by Michael Bay and directed by Marcus Nispel (yep, the same dude responsible …

Friday The 13th (2009)
I've been an avid Friday The 13th fanatic since I was eight years old.  It was during that time in which I was exposed to the earlier films in the series. I immediately fell in love with both the character and background story of Jason Vorhees. It was just so intriguing to me.    It's been six years since Freddy Vs. Jason hit theaters (2003) and it's easy to say that I was more than just 'excited' to finally see Jason back on the screen. I especially enjoyed the idea of …

It's pretty well known that I'm anti-remake, particularly when it comes to horror films. I'm not so much opposed to the idea of revisiting horror's most iconic characters—it's more a case of being disappointed that the revisiting is done mainly to appease an audience too lazy to watch the originals (I've spent some time talking to people under twenty, and if I hear one "I just can't get interested in these old movies" when referencing a film made less than 20 years ago, I may go postal. Yes, I know …

Friday the 13th Blu-ray
Even though this reboot of Friday the 13th didn't sit that well with fans of the previous two or three films (the rest are pretty bad), I enjoyed it a lot.  Sure, people are going to say that there was too much sex in it or it wasn't as scary as the original, but if you think about it, this new take on the character of Jason and the Friday the 13th films is pretty close to being what horror movies used to be back in the 70's, 80's and very early 90's.  It has the right amount of …

Avoid At All Costs
There has to be atleast one film per year that falls into this so-called "crap" category & Friday The 13th takes the place of last years' Cloverfield. Well, Friday does have a bit more gratuitous nudity & sex than Cloverfield ofcourse but that's not going to save the film from being a total bomb, which it is. Marcus Nispel succeeded in making the re-make of Texas Chainsaw Massacre several years back by appealing to the new generation. It's a shame he didn't stop there.   …

About this movie

Wiki

Friday the 13th is a 2009 American horror film directed by Marcus Nispel, and written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. It is a reboot of the Friday the 13th film series, which began in 1980.

It stars Derek Mears as Jason Voorhees, with Jared Padalecki, Amanda Righetti and Danielle Panabaker portraying the male and female leads. The film follows Clay Miller (Padalecki) as he searches for his missing sister, Whitney (Righetti), who was taken by Jason while she was camping in the woods at Crystal Lake.

Originally starting out as an origin story, the film ultimately became a re-imagining of the first four Friday the 13th films. Along with bringing the film back to its roots, Jason was designed as a leaner and faster killer, with a backstory that could provide a little sympathy for the character but not enough that he would lose his menace. Although this film reboots the continuity, Jason's iconic hockey mask, which was not introduced until the third film in the series, is acquired through the progression of the film. In keeping with the tone of the film, Jason's mask was also brought back to its roots, created from a mold of the original mask from Part III, though subtle changes were made to keep it unique to the new film. Friday the 13th also incorporated some of Harry Manfredini's music score from the original Friday film series, as the producers recognized the iconic status it held.
