Angelina Jolie & Lycra, Lordy could life get any better? Yehawwww. Im sorry, that was cheap, but did you see her in that outfit? Sorry, sorry
Cradle of Life is the follow up to Tomb Raider and is just as fun. I dont think Ive seen anyone seem to enjoy making a film more than Jolie does with these Lara Croft series. Add the fact that she looks delicious in the film, well, (insert cheap date, I admit it)
This time around we are looking for the orb that joins the box that Pandora built. Yep, good old Pandoras Box, and here I thought it was fictitious all these years. It seems that inside the box is something so vile, so demonistic, that the world will be destroyed if the box is opened, a virtual doomsday machine, if you will. Laras main opponent this time around is the evil villain, Jonathan Reiss (Ciarán Hinds). Croft has joined forces in this dooms hunt with her ex-lover, bad boy Gerald Butler (Terry Sheridan).
It takes a bit but Croft locates the pulsating orb, which is promptly stolen by Chen Lo, Chinese crime syndicate leader and co-conspirator of Reiss. It is Crofts and Butlers goal to retrieve the orb before it can be read (the map to the location of Pandoras Box is affixed to the surface of the glowing orb) and protect the evil box.
Is Lara successful or does Reiss get his muddy paws on the beautiful box and destroy the world? Come on kids, shes like, for sure, the female James Bond only better. There is nothing that crosses her path that she cant counteract, shes Lara Croft, Tomb Raider, for crying out loud. Sure its predictable, but its fun as Hell. Jolie looks like shes having the time of her life romping around and with her reputation, you can just bet she is doing a whole dang bunch of those stunts her own self.
Other than her fine look, she does the part so well. She seems to hold in character and maintains her accent and demeanor throughout the movie and you can almost visualize her yelling the Tarzan thing when she breaks out in battle. Darn it, she is just fun to watch.
Not as enjoyable, because I didnt feel any chemistry between them, was Terry Sheridan. Granted he played his part decently but if you are looking for a little sizzle between him and Croft, then look elsewhere. Of course I am hard pressed to think of anyone that would succeed in a role of that nature.
All in all, a fun film, nothing Earth shattering, and a good way to spend a couple of hours. The action isnt as faked as the Matrix action (hey, back off, some of that Matrix stuff is just unreal). Directed by Jan de Bont with writing credits to Steven de Souza & James Hart. Im sure there will be a follow-up film. Enjoy.
Pros: Some nice action and Jolie is good. Cons: Bad plot and ho-hum finale. The Bottom Line: Nothing great here, for Die hards only. Following on the success of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider star Angelina Jolie is back in the new adventure Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Jolie plays the title character who is a wealthy English heiress who travels the globe in search of treasure and adventure. Following an earthquake … more
Popular video game character Lara Croft returns to the big screen in this sequel to LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER. Intrepid British archaeologist Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) has made perhaps the most important archaeological discovery in history: an orb that leads to the mythical Pandora's Box. Unfortunately, the orb falls into the hands of Jonathan Reiss (Ciaran Hinds), an evil scientist who deals in killer viruses and hopes to sell the secrets of the box as the ultimate weapon. Recruited by British Intelligence to get the orb back from Reiss, Lara enlists Terry Sheridan (Gerard Butler), a British marine turned mercenary--and her former love interest--to help. The two embark on an adventure that spans continents in an attempt to regain the orb. Lara is a walking advertisement for "girl power." She's brilliant, athletic, courageous, and saucy. She flips jet skis, parachutes to safety from tall buildings, dives, rides horses--nothing seems beyond her. Best of all, Lara is one of the good ones--she'll do whateve...
