Nostalgic, Angst-Ridden Dog

  • May 31, 2010
Rating:

This dripping in nostalgia piece about an unhappy kid spending a summer in the country in 1950s Sweden, surrounded by quaint and quirky people doing quaint and quirky things - just didn't work for me.  I didn't like the kid, didn't like the people who surround him, maybe I just don't like Swedish movies.

I have not seen this film (which sounds like a good thing). Thanks for sharing and welcome to the community.

I might have been too harsh, just my personal reaction. Criterion Collection did the reissue, and they only put out 'critically acclaimed' films.

I may be constitutionally unable to appreciate the Swedes as filmmakers. My taste in European movies definitely runs to the French and Italians. I did like Fanny and Alexander tho, but it was supremely disturbing. I think I liked Smiles of A Summer Night, but I saw it many moons ago.
