Three Academy Award Winners and Ashton Kutcher in the same film...who would have thought it....

I am going to cause a lot of controversy with this review.  Everyone seems to hate this movie.  All of the critics panned it.  The audience reviews are really bad also.  Yet I really like it a lot.  Its a clone of Love Actually and Valentines Day.  Knowing that going in, I knew what to expect.   Its a no brainer movie.  But its also romantic and sweet.  True it has no sense of reality but I didn't expect that.  Its an old fashioned feel good movie.   Sure it has three academy award winning actors in the film, which does seem odd for this little film.  And yes it has lots of TV and teen stars also.   But it was still a nice escape for me and I really enjoyed the movie.  Garry Marshal has a formula that he seems to have perfected, or as the critics would leave you to believe its a formula he has run into the ground.  I personally can't wait for his next one, be it Memorial Day, 4th of July or Arbor Day I don't really care.  I know that I will be seeing something light and mindless that will entertain me.  Its a great holiday film.   And who would have ever thought you would find Robert DeNiro, Halle Barry, and Hillary Swank in the same movie as Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl.  That alone make this fun to watch, at least for me.

And yes I did dare to give this four stars.  It seems to be getting such terrible reviews I thought it should at least get one good one from me.

I admire someone who is not afraid to go against the grain! Good review, though unless my wife insists we go see this, I will be waiting for it to come to cable.

this seems to be similar to the movie "Valentine's Day". I really am unsure how I feel about this film, but Michelle Pfeiffer may be enough to get me to see it when it comes out on dvd or HBO. Thanks for the review!

It basically was the same formula as Valentines Day....not a great film. But fun for a Friday morning.

From the same people who brought youValentine's Day, just in case you couldn't tell, Gerry Marshall takes another holiday that is always completely blown out of proportion, slaps together a bunch of A-listers, and creates as many shallow characters with inconsequential plot lines as possible and calls it New Year's Eve. It is the exact same movie.    Want any more proof that this is the exact same movie; they cast some of the same actors and just gave them different …

Star Rating:         Garry Marshall’s New Year’s Eve is ostensibly a sequel to last year’s Valentine’s Day, a film I was very critical of for its surplus of subplots, overabundance of characters, and ceaseless intercutting. I described it as “a romantic comedy with Attention Deficit Disorder” and awarded it a rating of two stars. I could easily make the same argument for New Year’s Eve, and yet I feel much more forgiving this …
