Surprising Good!

Danny Glover does a good job following up as the new prey to be hunted. This time it is in a future Los Angeles that looks like the Detroit of Robocop, with gangs and crime running rampant. Glover, a much better actor than Arnold gives a more believable and highly entertaining performance as an LA Cop who gets pulled into the pursuit of the alien predator who is preying on the "toughest" good and bad guys in LA for sport.

Maria Conchita Alonzo and Ruben Blades also put in good performances as Glovers partners on the LA Police Force. Gary Busey as a seedy government agent looking to track and capture the predator alien. Little does he know that the alien has a lot more tricks up his sleeve than he bargained for.

The movie is begging for a follow-up because in one scene we see a whole slew of predator alien hunters showing off their trophys.

    * out of ****   The sequel to "Predator" is full of blood. Good for you, Stephen Hopkins. Now where's the entertainment? Hopkins manages to deliver a truly revolting sci-fi sequel. "Predator 2" is in every way a deadly and painful mess of a film. Yes, it has blood and (failed) attempts at action sequences, but without Schwarzenegger yelling "Get to the Chopper!" when such a phrase is needed, "Predator 2" is just plain stupid. …

Towards the end of a very heated gun battle between the LA Police Department and a Colombian drug cartel. Lt. Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover) along with members of his team are able to force the gangsters into their hideout, where they begin to reload and prepare for another strike. Another gun battle takes place that the cops have nothing to do with. When the battle is over, the cops inspect the chaos and notice that the drug pushers have been cut to pieces. Later on, a Jamaican drug cartel suffers …

The original Predator [Blu-ray] was a sci-fi classic. Predator 2, by contrast, is a more typical sci-fi/horror junk film. It's not the worst movie ever, but certainly wasn't a worthy sequel (unlike Aliens (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)). It takes place in a big city, filled with drug addicts and prostitutes. Frankly, you don't really care if any of the characters end up getting killed. Schwarzenegger was asked to return for this movie, but read the script and allegedly didn't like it. That should …

Predator 2 takes place several years later after the events of the first film.  This time a sport killing alien is hanging around L.A. collecting more trophies for his wall.  Danny Glover stars as Lt. Harrigan a tired and aging cop (similar to the character he played in the Lethal Weapon series). who's battle weary and fatigued from the violent drug wars and crime in the big city.  During a bloody shootout, he comes across one of those hunters who has been picking off gangsters.  …

About this movie

Wiki

Predatorwreaked havoc in the jungle and struck box-office gold, so Hollywood logic dictated thatPredator 2should raise hell in the big, bad city. Los Angeles, to be specific, and this near-future L.A. (circa 1997) is an ultra-violent playground for the invisibility-cloaked alien that hunted Arnold Schwarzenegger in the previous film. Scant explanation is given for the creature's return, and because Ah-nuld was busy makingTotal Recall, Danny Glover was awkwardly installed as the maverick cop (is there any other kind?) who defies a government goon (Gary Busey) to curtail the alien's inner-city killing spree. But why bother, when the victims are scummy Colombian drug lords? Don't look for intelligent answers; director Stephen Hopkins favors wall-to-wall action over sensible plotting, allowing Stan Winston's more prominently featured Predator to join the ranks of iconic movie monsters. And anticipatingAlien vs. Predatorin comic books andin theaters, there's a familiar-looking skull in the Predator's trophy case!--Jeff Shannon
