Prom Night: Are 21st century horror movies destined to be cheesy?
It's been a while since I've seen a seriously disturbing horror movie. The long slew of films such as Pulse, One Missed Call, and similar impossible-type plots are fun to watch, but let's get real…it's all cheese.
So I didn't have high hopes for Prom Night, directed by Nelson McCormick (a primarily television series director). But if I'm going to be honest, I should tell you…I did want it to kick ass.
I was ready for an old school horror movie that focuses on perverted and disturbing infatuation and obsession. Part of me was hoping that the high school teacher, played by the fine-looking Johnathon Schaech, would be so insanely obsessed with his student (Brittany Snow) that I would begin looking over my shoulder, looking for my own high school teachers.
Not so.
I was kept entertained during the film's 88-minute duration, but I wasn't blown away. I actually rolled my eyes a few times (Really? You want to go in there…alone? Retarded character, I think to myself) and chuckled under my breath a few other times.
However, I walked away thoroughly entertained and wanting to see more high school kids get slaughtered.
So what if I am a little disturbed?
Final call: don't waste money on a movie ticket—or even a DVD rental, for that matter. Wait until this cheap gem comes on TV.
