Psycho: Redux

Psycho was an unnecessary remake of the classic Hitchcock horror film. I don't even have the foggiest idea why the director thought it would be a cool idea to try and remake the original. Not only did he do it ineptly but he did a scene by scene re-shoot of it. Sometimes people just don't know when to either say no to a bad idea or they just don't care. Perhaps it's a little from column A and a little from Column B in this case. One major thing that stands out is how the filmmakers changed the tones and attitudes of the characters. Vince Vaughn doesn't have what it takes to pull of Norman Bates.  He looks and acts like a creep from the get go,  Julianne Moore's version of Lita Crane is silly and Anne Heche just sleep walks in her role as Marion Crane.

The best thing about this film is the cinematography.  Christopher Doyle has to be one of the best in the business.  He really knows how to photograph scenes (check out his Hong Kong work with Wong Ka Wai).  I really didn't care for this reboot of the series and neither did the movie going public because this one died at the box office.

A lame remake - the original was much better.
