Everyone knows the traditional story of Robin Hood. Take from the rich and give to the poor, but the movie done by Ridley Scott starring Russell Crowe is a completely different take on this old English legend. Not only are Scott and Crowe and awesome combination of film making, but I really liked the idea that they gave Robin Hood a whole new spin which was surprising because when I first heard that they were doing another Robin Hood movie, one would think that it has just been way over done. It was the pre-story of who Robin became the legend he is today with allowing for all the characters that we know and love.
As for how it holds up to the rest of the Scott/Crowe film legacies, it's not my favorite movie. There are some slow moments where you wish there was more action and I thought the last battle scene didn't deliver the umph that some other scenes have such as movies done like Gladiator, and Kingdom of Heaven, but where it made up in action, the acting it's self was wonderful. Crowe delivers another wonderful and believable performance. I like how he was joined by Scott Grimes, who plays Will Scarlett and Kevin Durand playing little John. Both these actors having played with Crowe before in Mystery Alaska. They all work well together and was fun to see them joined up again.
Kate Blanchett, while not always my favorite and I was having a hard time thinking of her as the fair Maid Marion also was a wonderful surprise to me. They made her tough and willing to fight but also giving her that feminine side as well. I have really enjoyed her films where she played Elizabeth, so I really figured out that she was a good fit within this particular movie.
All in all it was a very watchable and enjoyable movie to watch and of course I will buy it when it comes out to add to my Russell Crowe Collection.
