Second Name is a film by Paco Plaza based upon the novel written by Ramsey Campbell.   Daniella is a young woman who's life is in turmoil.  Her father has killed himself and when she visits her mentally impaired mother, the old woman freaks out when she sees her and calls Daniella by another name.  Confused by her father's suicide and the mysterious "Second Name", Daniella decides to research her father's background and learn not only about the strange name but her own muddy background.  The more she learns the truth about her life she realizes that she has a predestined fate that is somehow tied to the suicide, her mother's admittance to a sanitarium and the mysterious name her mother called her.  What or where did Daniella come from and what is her fate?

A dreary and grim film from Paco Plaza.  This film is more of a psychological thriller than your standard horror film.  The slow buildup and even paced direction makes the film's climax all the better and enjoyable.  You really feel for Daniella as she tries to find out about her past and the dark mystery that surrounds it.  If you enjoy Spanish Horror then you'll want to locate a copy of Second Name and pick up a copy of the book Pact of the Fathers,

Highly recommended.
