I Kissed A Girl & I Liked It

Having only seen the first season of SATC, I was beginning to wonder if I'd catch on here or even like this film. Needless to say, Summer typically offers very little of any great importance as far as films go so my selections naturally are extremely limited to say the least. I had 2 free tickets to the local Carmike & I figured this was about as good as it was going to get. I didn't even have to like the film necessarily.
Carrie Bradshaw is an amazing woman as the film & the TV series wants you to believe. She's attractive, intelligient, & level-headed. She's marriage material, right? The girl from the big apple who you'd love to take home & introduce to mom, right? Surely, this is what most viewers have gathered irregardless of whether they watched the TV series or saw the movie. We love Carrie Bradshaw & so many women would probably like to be wearing her shoes if they aren't already.

SATC is an ok film. There is some degree of frothiness & wit underneath the shallow side of Bushnell's City. In fact, you may even discover some heart or sweetness even though the film tries to be more savvy than anything else. Had the writers stuck with focusing on the storyline & characterization moreso than finding tantalizing adult scenes to tease it's audience with, SATC would be a very good film. The problem is we can barely focus on the heart of the matter because the entire films screams "sex here". Thus, we are left feeling kind of empty long before the film reaches it's climax. Uhh, no pun intended.

I do like the romantic theme SATC has going for it. This is perhaps it's most redeemable aspect. For the most part, you want the girls be happy. You want everyone to resolve their issues somehow & still manage to maintain their own identities. With some clever dialogue dispersed throughout the film like appleseed, we get a glimpse of what we originally liked about the show in the first place. The hot passion spread out on the screen is spicy but who hasn't seen this before? If you really wanted erotica, wouldn't you be looking for something a bit more softcore?

Me too @wookpak_the_thrill- I was a little shocked to see this on your list Ceno! I loved the series, it was and continues to be one of my many guilty pleasures. However, I do have to agree with you on the movie- though I liked it, I didn't realize how much it screamed sex here until you pointed it out. I just brushed it off as typical SATC stuff. They do pimp out Carrie and make you want to be like her...back when it was on TV, I was inadvertently labeled her because I used to type on my laptop smoking Marlboro Lights, my hair askew LOL...Thanks, love!

Just goes to show you that there's more to Cenobite here than horror flicks! LOL!

HBO has had a few things going for it through the years & this was it's bread/butter so to speak. I did like the episodes I used to watch on TV though I never really caught a complete season. It's sort of a guilty pleasure of mine too I guess you could say. I probably won't buy the film or the TV series on DVD. Even more strange, I can kind of relate to their characters somewhat. Hmm, how is that? Lemme see. I see myself as having a milder if not less acidic take on life like Charlotte. I've also been known to be rather cynical like Miranda. Some people say I'm quick-witted like Samantha. Of course, everyone throws me the Carrie comparison because I write movie columns. LOL Thanks Sam & Will!! Glad you guys liked the review.

LOL...Will! I KNOW! It's good to see. I love it when you guys branch out. I think that's the beauty of SATC is that the characters are relatable and they talked about sex openly and candidly. For once, I used to think when I was younger- here's a show that talks about relationships and sex just like I do with my friends. Guilty pleasures are good to have- my newest one is So You Think You Can Dance and OF COURSE, True Blood!!! Does that count as guilty though?
June 16, 2009
Everybody needs a guilty pleasure of some sort. Yeah, I can definitely see what you mean as far as the candid talks. It's kinda the same way with me & my friends. We don't always tell each other everything per se but have shared a great deal more than I thought I could ever share with just a friend. It's funny that most of these convos were also with mixed company which shocks me a little bit but maybe it shouldn't. For example, I had a very candid convo on relationships & sex with one of my best friends' wives. That was interesting! LMAO Back to your guilty pleasures though. I have never seen So You Think You Can Dance but I absolutely love True Blood even though I don't see that as a guilty pleasure necessarily. ;-)~ Much love Djevoke!!

I'm impressed..and a bit shocked that you saw this movie. Then again, i used to check out episodes of the series in HBO, Kim Cattrall just ruled. LMAO

I guess I have my moments. It's funny you should mention this. I was just telling a friend the other day how it's difficult for me to write up reviews for the stuff that really moves like American Beauty, Joy Luck Club, etc. I suppose there are films which are so deeply moving or a bit intense perhaps which I simply don't have the words to do any justice. Yeah, Cattrall was awesome! For years, I just kept calling her character Kim Cattrall as I couldn't get used to the name Samantha. Kinda sucks to have grown up in the '80's I guess & to remember certain actresses from that time period. LOL

Sex and the City - The Movie Poster
I was sitting on my snow-white, $300 IKEA couch with tears in my eyes the day the last episode of "Sex and the City" aired on HBO. They were leaving us on top, with a strong legacy of solid entertainment along with tons of heart-pulsing and heart-wrenching moments. But, still, I was tremendously sad to say good bye to my favorite TV ladies. Would there ever be another show like it, with comparable clever and witty writing, and plot lines to which I could authentically …

I've probably seen every episode of SatC every made. This is not necessarily because I think it's a great show, but rather because I have a penchant for trashy TV, and I love to imagine what living in NYC would really be like if a writer's salary for a weekly dating column could actually afford you an ever-expanding wardrobe. At least she lives in a studio apartment.  Despite my "dedication" to the show, sitting through 3 hours of the movie version felt like someone was dragging a stiletto …

I was in London when this movie opened (which I believe was 2 days before in the US?) and me and my girlfriends were SUPER STOKED ABOUT THIS. We even got all dressed up, went to dinner/cosmos, then caught the 10:45 viewing of this...it didn't matter that we'd get home at around 2 then have to get our asses to work...it had to be done.    I didn't really think there was a way I would be disappointed by this and I was right.. I absolutely loved it.  It was extremely sad when …

I have to admit, I was excited to see Sex and the City-the Movie.  The minute the lights went down and that characteristically sexy "duh duh, duh duh, duh duh" theme music came on, my heart skipped a little beat.  I would get to see Charlotte's adopted baby girl, see how Smith Jarred was getting along in years, and see what exactly what was going on with Carrie's hair these days.  It had been years since I'd seen a new storyline with the girls, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity.  & …

Diving in...this movie is nauseating.  An absolute embarrassment to Hollywood and to anyone calling it 'entertaining'.  I'd rather watch a marathon of silent films before i go back to a theater screening this flick.  145 minutes of poor acting, predictable/lousy plot, and over the top wardrobe.  I mean really...Could Carrie Bradshaw not think of a single witty and thoughtful line of dialogue throughout this entire movie?  Is it really necessary for her to jog in high heels …

This is one of the few shows that I've watched since the beginning and considered good or ground-breaking enough to actually buy the episodes on DVD. (CSI and The L-Word being others) I didn't buy Season Six in protest of the way they split it into two DVD sets, thereby doubling the price for the Season, but I digress. The movie picks up the threads four years after the series left off.     Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) has reconciled with Big (Chris Noth) and the two are apartment …

The fabulous cast
As a huge fan of the series, I was extremely excited about the release of the movie. The movie did not disappoint, and it was great to get reacquainted with all the characters and see how their lives have changed. There were definitely many unexpected twists and turns throughout the movie. However, the ending did wind up being somewhat predictable. Like the typical chick flick, there was a happy ending that seemed a bit unrealistic.     That was definitely the only negative I …
