The Grandest Sex and the City Episode was the 2.5 Hour Movie

  • Jun 5, 2008
  • by

I was sitting on my snow-white, $300 IKEA couch with tears in my eyes the day the last episode of "Sex and the City" aired on HBO. They were leaving us on top, with a strong legacy of solid entertainment along with tons of heart-pulsing and heart-wrenching moments. But, still, I was tremendously sad to say good bye to my favorite TV ladies. Would there ever be another show like it, with comparable clever and witty writing, and plot lines to which I could authentically relate?  After all, in my group of friends, I could easily point to the Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha. I personally consider myself 60% Carrie, 20% Miranda and 20% Charlotte. Sorry Samantha, you can be my friend though.

In any case, when I heard the movie was coming out, I was quite skeptical. I was worried this movie would be the sour ending to my previously esteemed series finale. Would they sell out, would they stay true to the characters, would it feel like a movie or would it have a beginning, middle and a happy ending? I wasn't event sure what I wanted this movie to be like... . So there I was sitting in a movie theater, where men were, for once, a minority. After, a series of entertaining "chick flick" previews, the lights dimmed to dark and the movie started. "Oh, Oh" I thought, "They didn't use the original opening montage. Oh this is going to be bad!" I said to myself in haste. "I knew it, it's going to be a Movie and not "Sex and the City.'" I wrongfully presumed.  Thankfully, this panic only lasted moments because the moment Carrie started narrating the story, I felt right back at home on my $300 IKEA couch.

In a nut shell, the movie was nothing short of grand, amazing and absolutely true to the core and the spirit of the series. It was the grandest "Sex and the City" episode. 2.5 hours of goodness, laughter, wit, crying, shock and wisdom. Yes, wisdom - that's how brilliant their writers are. Every character had an interesting plot line, each very real and authentically thought out. I did not want the movie to end. I wanted it to keep going and going, just like the Energizer bunny.

Most memorable "Sex and the City - The Movie" Moments:
Carrie's amazing walk in closet

Stevo - The Cheatahhr

Samantha's sexy Brazilian stallion of a neighbor

Carrie giving Big a beating

"I curse the day that you were born" says Charlotte. "Ooops. I think my water broke"

Big proposes to Carrie with a shoe

Charlotte let's loose in her pants

Miranda and Stevo on the Brooklyn Bridge

Predictable moments:
Mr. Big flakes

Carrie gets to keep the fancy wedding dress from the photo shoot

The password was "Love"

Smith bought Samantha the ring she was bidding for at the auction

"What?" Moments:
Where was Aidan? I thought for sure he would make an appearance. He was my favorite leading man. Especially, after he cut the shaggy hair.

Carrie throws her pink, sparkly phone in the ocean and does not listen to Big's messages. What? What about all your phone numbers.

Miranda - In need of a wax. That was, how do I say it tactfully...,"nasty!"

And there were many, many more special moments. Now, when is the next long episode coming out?

So which Sex and the City Girl are you most like?

I am 100% in agreement - I love love love this movie this series - all of it!

Hey Gadabouter-- I don't think I would have bought the pain that Carrie was obviously in if she'd jumped right onto her computer to blog about being jilted at the alter! She was in the kind of pain that makes you want to sleep and never wake up. I loved how her character reacted. It was very genuine and not at all formulaic. I thought that the entire movie was executed so flawlessly and totally in line with how the characters were left off in the series. Speaking of the series, I bought the entire box set at my favorite place--Target--for only $99! That place rules!

You're right about Charlotte letting loose in her pants. I laughed so hard that my eyes were watering. And man, that closet was so very fairytale.

It's a good movie to watch if you have absolutely nothing else to do than watch this one movie.

I Kissed A Girl & I Liked It
Having only seen the first season of SATC, I was beginning to wonder if I'd catch on here or even like this film. Needless to say, Summer typically offers very little of any great importance as far as films go so my selections naturally are extremely limited to say the least. I had 2 free tickets to the local Carmike & I figured this was about as good as it was going to get. I didn't even have to like the film necessarily.       Carrie Bradshaw is …

Watched this with my BFF @latoya when I was going through a breakup. Shows that no love story is perfect & can have major bumps in the road.

I've probably seen every episode of SatC every made. This is not necessarily because I think it's a great show, but rather because I have a penchant for trashy TV, and I love to imagine what living in NYC would really be like if a writer's salary for a weekly dating column could actually afford you an ever-expanding wardrobe. At least she lives in a studio apartment.  Despite my "dedication" to the show, sitting through 3 hours of the movie version felt like someone was dragging a stiletto …

I was in London when this movie opened (which I believe was 2 days before in the US?) and me and my girlfriends were SUPER STOKED ABOUT THIS. We even got all dressed up, went to dinner/cosmos, then caught the 10:45 viewing of this...it didn't matter that we'd get home at around 2 then have to get our asses to work...it had to be done.    I didn't really think there was a way I would be disappointed by this and I was right.. I absolutely loved it.  It was extremely sad when …

I have to admit, I was excited to see Sex and the City-the Movie.  The minute the lights went down and that characteristically sexy "duh duh, duh duh, duh duh" theme music came on, my heart skipped a little beat.  I would get to see Charlotte's adopted baby girl, see how Smith Jarred was getting along in years, and see what exactly what was going on with Carrie's hair these days.  It had been years since I'd seen a new storyline with the girls, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity.  & …

Diving in...this movie is nauseating.  An absolute embarrassment to Hollywood and to anyone calling it 'entertaining'.  I'd rather watch a marathon of silent films before i go back to a theater screening this flick.  145 minutes of poor acting, predictable/lousy plot, and over the top wardrobe.  I mean really...Could Carrie Bradshaw not think of a single witty and thoughtful line of dialogue throughout this entire movie?  Is it really necessary for her to jog in high heels …

This is one of the few shows that I've watched since the beginning and considered good or ground-breaking enough to actually buy the episodes on DVD. (CSI and The L-Word being others) I didn't buy Season Six in protest of the way they split it into two DVD sets, thereby doubling the price for the Season, but I digress. The movie picks up the threads four years after the series left off.     Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) has reconciled with Big (Chris Noth) and the two are apartment …

The fabulous cast
As a huge fan of the series, I was extremely excited about the release of the movie. The movie did not disappoint, and it was great to get reacquainted with all the characters and see how their lives have changed. There were definitely many unexpected twists and turns throughout the movie. However, the ending did wind up being somewhat predictable. Like the typical chick flick, there was a happy ending that seemed a bit unrealistic.     That was definitely the only negative I …
