I expected more...boring, depressing, waste of time

First of all I would like to say that Robert DeNiro and Edward Norton are two of my favorite actor's. Both of them are very believable in their parts as I would expect from them. My problem with this movie has nothing to do with the characters or acting.

The movie was just so incredibly boring that I could hardly finish it. About half way through it I found myself wanting to turn it off. There is nothing to get excited about and really no action at all. The whole story is just a dud in my opinion. I found it to be a huge disappointment considering DeNiro and Norton are the main characters. DeNiro and Norton were both in "The Score" and that was a fantastic movie so I guess I was expecting much more.

This IS NOT a movie to watch with the kids. There is nudity and a lot of really nasty language, I mean a lot.

Another thing that bugs me is the horrible scratching background noise throughout the movie. It really gets annoying after a while. The noise is supposed to be the noise that Norton's character is hearing in his head but it really got on my nerves.

Not to mention that the ending is horrible and leaves you hanging and wondering. It's almost like the movie just stopped in the middle. At the end we were like that's it?

I know that some will certainly disagree with me but this movie was a waste of time in my opinion and I wouldn't recommend it.

I've been a Milla fan ever since I saw her perform at a music festival back in the early `90s. I bet I've listened to Divine Comedy 100 times. I wasn't surprised when she moved over into acting; her musical style wasn't exactly suitable for mass consumption.    Robert DeNiro is wonderful in just about everything he does, and this movie was no exception. Edward Norton was great as well, although I was almost halfway through the movie before I stopped being annoyed by his prison …

About this movie

Edward Norton is always fascinating to watch--something slippery always lingers behind his eyes. InStone, Norton plays a convicted arsonist nicknamed Stone who's desperate to persuade his parole officer, Jack Mabry (Robert De Niro), to argue for his early release--so desperate that he asks his wife, Lucetta (Milla Jovovich,The Fifth Element), to seduce Mabry. But while these machinations play out, Stone starts having a spiritual awakening … or is this another attempt at manipulation? Director John Curran and Norton worked together previously onThe Painted Veil, and they clearly have a rapport: Norton's performance is fluid and sinuous, working its way into Mabry's consciousness and, potentially, the audience's. De Niro is, of course, solid, though he projects such a steely will that it's difficult to accept him as a man who succumbs to base appetites. Writer Angus MacLachlan wrote the luminousJunebug; whileStonedoesn't manage the same rich humanity--despite the excellent acting by all involved, the story feels cramped and schematic--there are strong passages. But fundamentally, it's Norton who makes the movie worth watching; even the scenes he's not in feel like they're about him, how his influence ripples out into the people around him.--Bret Fetzer
