A Quick Tip by woopak_the_thrill

Wanted to see something that I did not need to think about so I streamed this (legally online) to re-watch. (I don't think I ever finsihed it the first time)

I have to say that the movie was probably intended to promote the game, but gosh it made other movies made to plug a video game look like Oscar contenders. This is not a sequel to Street Fighter II: the animated movie

Sure, it had some moments of decent action, but the problem was the plot execution that was wrapped around to set up those action scenes. Nothing is really explained, and the plot was riddled with holes. It all focuses on Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Shun, and while that wouldn't be a bad thing, the way everything revolved around them was shamelessly executed. It also stops just when it was about to get interesting.

Well, if you are bored and a Street Fighter fan, better see STREET FIGHTER 2 The animated movie instead. [1 1/2 Out of 5 Stars]

Look at the photo below, even Ryu is crying over the bad quality of this movie LOL!

Dude, I am with you on this. I never liked this flick from day one and it gets worse on rewatches. I don't know what the powers that be were thinking. And just in case you didn't know, the first Alpha was never meant to be a sequel, it was intended to be a prequel, but then once the Alpha sequels began to pour in Capcom clearly lost sight of their original intent I think. Personally, I feel there's no way they can be prequels now.

I agree. this was ouch! hey, is the uncut version of SF:AM worth it or is it just the shower scene that made it different?
February 24
Actually, there's more to it than the shower scene. You get more blood during the action segments which is actually very important in regards to the fight between Ryu and Sagat. The edited version you don't even see his chest torn open. And the fight with Vega is missing quite a bit too. Skip the edited version at all cost and get the uncut.

BTW, that pic is from SF: Generations, but I think Ryu was crying the same in that bomb.

thanks for that info. I bought the original U.S. release long ago and I wanted to see what made the new release different. I ordered it for $ 15 used. I do want to see the original Japanese cut so I can review it.

I get where you're coming from with the original language track thing, but seriously, the English track is by far better. The dialog has funnier moments and most importantly the soundtrack is more engaging. It features licensed tracks that catches the feel of some battle segments much better which is very similar to Black Lagoon, while the Japanese track even feels out of place. But hey, it's on you, I recommend checking them both out. And this is no bias towards the English version either, I didn't see that version until the 2000's and the movie was better for me, while I saw the Jap version in the mid 90's when it first hit shores.
February 24
Yeah, usually the soundtrack of the English version is more engaging. I do have to say that I liked the Japanese language with Black Lagoon--I loved the voice of REVY when she speaks English with the Japanese accent. It had better mood and emotions, but the music in the english version is better. Well, the new U.S. dvd has both versions of STREET FIGHTER so I can compare them both.

Pros: Animation was nice and Ken doesn't suck.     Cons: Oh where do I beginÂ…     The Bottom Line: Ken is cooler than Ryu.     Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot. There are some things I never thought I’d say about an anime movie, but holy crap that was bad.      If you’ve read any of the other reviews, then you might already have an idea as to what I’m going to say. …

About this movie

Wiki

The immensely popular STREET FIGHTER series, probably best known for its appearance on gaming consoles, has also become a first rate anime. Here, Ryu and Ken find themselves unhappily reunited as they meet up after the death of their master. Ryu's life is turned upside down even more when Shun, a boy claiming to be his long lost brother, presents himself. Doubtful, Ryu begins to believe the veracity of Shun's claim when he sees the boy fight in a martial arts competition. Unfortunately, the boy is soon kidnapped by the Shadowlaw organization forcing Ryu to undergo a painful journey just as his confidence is waning.
