Before Scream and Scary Movie there was Student Bodies.

Student Bodies is a very entertaining and funny film written and co-directed by Mickey Rose (one of Woody Allen's early collaborators) .  This screwball take on the slasher films of the late 70's/ early 80's is a real treat for fans of the genre and those who enjoy a good parody.  I saw this film over twenty years ago on late t.v. and it was awesome.  A few years later I got a copy on VHS.  But now it''s available on DVD looking real sharp in widescreen and a cleaned up picture.

The film is about a mysterious killer named The Breather who wears black galoshes kills his promiscuous victims with some very unusual weapons (paper clips, an Eggplant, Horsehead bookends).  He stalks a group of overage high school students at Lamab High. The killer likes to crank call the school officials and brag to the local authorities about the crimes. The authorities have only one suspect, a teenage girl named Toby who knew the victims and wants to prevent the killer from slaying anymore of the student body.  Can she stop The Breather before it's too late?

A weird parody of Halloween, Friday the 13th, Carrie, Prom Night, When A Stranger Calls and Black Christmas to name a few.  The one thing this film has problems with (besides getting an R-Rating which was solved by a cameo appearance from one of the "producers") was the budget.  Money was tight causing one of the directors to leave and a hastily rewritten ending.  It's still a very entertaining movie that will give you more than a chuckle.
