Banderas is what drew me to this film. And he puts on an excellent performance here. In fact, all of the actors and actresses did well.
It is an
excellent film too but it is still getting a -2 rating from me. The problem, as far as I'm concerned, lies in the scripting. It is psychologically repulsive and unhealthy as far as I'm concerned. Somewhat like
The Black Swan which many love.

Both movies illustrate one thing to me, that psychosis of the mind kills. Having said that, this one didn't get as bad a rating as the other at least it's because it didn't have that manipulative fear factor dominating the theater. At the end of the movie, I just feel "sick". I think many ladies in the theater did too!
I happened to chance onto this one at the cinema not knowing what to expect. I didn't even know it's a Spanish film! Having said that, I was able to sense the kind of film right from the beginning. It has a clinical feel and mood to it. It also has the minimalist feel. Somewhat like the Apple products. I noticed that music was used to the utmost to create & enhance the "mood" and colors. The audience is kept in suspense as to what the plot is really about. It reminded me a little of the movie
Coma as well. The leading actor and actress are very pleasant to look at so despite the slowly unveiling of the characters, audiences feel like in a maze. How it evolved and the complications of each chapter and character of the story are quite sensational. However, one can't help but feel sick as it turns into a kind of horror movie!
I admired Banderas for taking on such a controversial role. It's really can be a turn-off to see one's idol in such a role, LOL! But, he's an accomplished actor and he pulled it off real well. The trick is actually in our very own mind, if one thinks about it. Knowing something or someone to be otherwise can certainly influence one's perception!!!
As much as I've written here (hopefully without spoilers), it is best one goes to the cinema and make his/her own decision whether to like or dislike this film. I have a feeling men might like it a lot better than women! If mystery and thriller are your kind of movies, then this is a must! If you're going simply for Banderas, I'd advise to skip it!
