Its a Rene Russo Affair...

Pros: Great performances by Brosnan and Russo

Cons: This plot line, weak supporting cast.

I went to see The Thomas Crown Affair because I like Pierce Brosnsan, but ended up enchanted by the stellar performance, and flamboyant sexiness of Rene Russo. I have seen her in other movies, most notably Lethal Weapon 2 (or was it three), but in those movies she was a bit player at best. In The Thomas Crown Affair she all but stole the show from Brosnan, who is always a formidable presence on the screen. She dripped with sexuality at almost every turn, appearing nude in several scenes, which was a pleasant surprise to this reviewer. She can most certainly hold her own against today’s crop of young nubile actresses. Her physical attributes aside, her acting was suburb in spots not so sterling in others. She really shined opposite Brosnan—you could almost feel the vibes between them, but dimmed when paired on the screen with Dennis Leary, who I have never have considered an even mediocre actor. There is never any depth to his character, and he always, always plays his characters the same; somewhat dark and sulking.

The plot line of the movie, about a billionaire who is bored and would rather steal his art for the thrill it brings him, instead of buy it legitimately is thin, but held my interest because of Brosnan and Russo. The action sequences are well thought out and somewhat believable, the sex was passable, but the ending was wholly predictable, and as a result, boring.

Overall I would recommend The Thomas Crown Affair for a overcast Saturday or Sunday afternoon, when there in nothing you want to do, but escape!

One star is pretty low for this review; reads like a three or a four. One star is for mediocre films, and your review reads like you liked it.

Don't know whether the intention of the story was to highlight Rene Russo's breasts or to make you like an obvious criminal. The movie was totally disjointed and difficult to follow. You have an intricate plan to rob an art museum at the beginning that was nothing but a ruse so Bronson could heist a painting that we are never sure whether he wanted in the first place. He seems to like to live life on the edge and is more concerned with the challenge of doing something (betting $100,000 on a virtually …

There are two things worth noticing about this movie. One is the writing of Leslie Dixon who makes the cat-and-cat love affair simmer in spite of its gross improbability. The other is the absolute dominance of Rene Russo, a creature so gorgeous that one has to be amazed that she can also speak. Of course, when she speaks, the energy (in this otherwise fairly silly film) just about melts the screen.   There are people who insist that the other lead lends some interest to the sexual tension. …

About this movie

Wiki

The Thomas Crown Affair is a 1999 heist film directed by John McTiernan. It is a remake of the 1968 film of the same name. Pierce Brosnan, Rene Russo and Denis Leary star.

The film's success prompted plans for a sequel starring Brosnan titled The Topkapi Affair, which also would be a remake of the 1964 film Topkapi starring Melina Mercouri, Maximilian Schell, and Peter Ustinov. Both films are based on Eric Ambler's 1962 novel, The Light of Day.[1]
