I always try to at least get people to watch the first 5 minutes of this film if anything, just because it's absolutely brilliant. And what an opening score by Bernard Herrman in the title sequence.

Vertigo (1958) is a psychological thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starring James Stewart and Kim Novak and featuring Barbara Bel Geddes and Tom Helmore. The film, which was written by Alec Coppel and Samuel A. Taylor, based on a novel by Boileau-Narcejac, tells the story of a retired policeman who falls in love with a mysterious woman he has been hired to follow. Although it received mixed reviews on its first release, the film has since gained in esteem and is frequently ranked among the best films ever made.
