Water for Elephants Is An Excellent Date Night Movie

Water for Elephants is an award winning film in my book. This movie is rated PG-13 and is based in the 1930's. This is a romantic drama and will last about 2 hours. This is directed by Francis Lawerence and written by Richard LaGravenese and Sara Gruen. The main stars of this film is Robert Pattinson and Teese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz. You probably are wondering why Robert Pattinson looks familiar and that is because he has in movies such as: Twilight as Edward Cullen and in the Harry Potter movies as Cedric Diggory. Reese Whitherspoon on the other hand well is Reese Whitherspoon. With these two stars of power make this an excellent power house of a show. You will be amazed at the magic that is going on between the two of them.

This takes place in the 1930's and is about a teen (Jacob Jankowski)that loses his parents and is left broke and nowhere to go, so he hops a train that just so happens to be the competition to the Barnum and Bailey's Circus. He tries to go to school and becoming a Vet and when he loses his parents he cannot afford to pay for the college himself. This is when he joins the circus and with his talent for caring for animals he amazes the owners of the circus and the keep him on as the animal caretaker.

Once he is there he meets a girl Marlena Rosenbluth (Played by Reese Whitherspoon) and they fall in love even though she is married, but not without any usual young lovers troubles with them wondering that if they were made for each other. But, since she is so high strung Jacob (played by Robert Pattinson) for some unbeknownst reason he starts falling in love with her. This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat especially if you are into drama. Jacob finds out that the elephant called Rosie that is being mistreated by the circus only knows the polish language. Because of this language barrier the owner cannot speak polish and thinks that Rosie is un-trainable. The elephant Rosie befriends Jacob and since Jacob protected the Rosie in her time of need, the elephant remembers and when Jacob is attacked by the owner of the elephant, the elephant retaliates and protects Jacob from an almost certain death.

Cast
The other cast members that are in this move only add to the captivating allure of this movie. They are August (played by Christoph Waltz), Charlie (played by Paul Schneider), Camel (played by Jim Norton), Kinko/Walter (Played by Mark Povinelli), Grady (played by Richard Brake), Wade (played by Stephen  Taylor), Earl (played by Ken Foree), Old Jacob Jankowski (played by Hal Holbrook), Blackie (played by Scott McDonald), Rosie's Caretaker (played by James Frain), Mr.  Hyde (played by Sam Anderson), Mr. Erwin (played by John Avlward), Mr. Robinson (played by Brad Greenquist).

Conclusion
This is a very date night movie and it also helps if you are an animal lover. This also shows how mean the old time circus trainers were to the animals. This was more common back then than it is now-a-days. If you were to do that today you would be thrown in jail. This movie in my book deserves some type of an award and if it does not I will be really surprised. From the acting all the way to the way that the animals were trained to make a movie about the circus. This may not get too many reviews just because it is not an action movie, but this is an excellent chick flick and if you want to show your date your sensitive side then take her to see this movie.

I am pleasantly surprised that the director of "Constantine" can do a very credible romantic drama. Nice review!!

Under most circumstances I love period pieces.  All of the research and work that goes into a production from start to finish that makes the film feel authentic.  Wardrobe, hair styles, make-up, props, vehicles/transportation, speech, etc.  All of the little things that can ultimately make or break a period piece if it is supposed to feel realistic.  Right off the bat we are told that "THIS FILM TAKES PLACE IN 1931", like we are being beat over the head with that fact, …
