Nagasaki is the setting. Puccini's Madame Butterfly is the opera.

OPERA! Oh, what an intense, uplifting & inspiring encounter. I love Puccini's Madame Butterfly & La Boheme. Listening to opera aria is like tapping into one's soul & passion. Intertwined with the soprano's emotional expression & you reach a plateau of climax where your heart constricts & your tears flow. It's simply an awesome feeling! I don't have enough words for this. So, please go & get yourself a CD & just feeeeeeel & immerse yourself in this wonderful world of love!

My favortie opera? Puccini's La Boheme! Granted, I haven't seen that many opera but I've seen most of Puccini's and some from Schubert. An evening at the opera is a great and unique experience. One can actually get hook to these classical music and shows. Vienna is probably the best city to go for operas and concerts. It has one every night!

Puccini was a Genius and my favorite opera Composer, no one surpasse him in written arias that are just overflowing with great passion and deep emotion. Like the aria from madam Butterly in the first video above, or the fantastic E lucevan le stelle from Tosca. Simply magical.

The performance is typically given in an opera house, accompanied by an orchestra or smaller musical ensemble.

Opera started in Italy at the end of the 16th century (with Jacopo Peri's lost Dafne, produced in Florence around 1597) and soon spread through the rest of Europe: Schütz in Germany, Lully in France, and Purcell in England all helped to establish their national traditions in the 17th century. However, in the 18th century, Italian opera continued to dominate most of Europe, except France, attracting foreign composers such as Handel. Opera seria was the most prestigious form of Italian opera, until Gluck reacted against its artificiality with his "reform" operas in the 1760s. Today the most renowned figure of late 18th century opera is Mozart, who began with opera seria but is most famous for his Italian comic operas, especially The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Così fan tutte, as well as The Magic Flute, a ...
