Maybe California Lyrics

I had a stop & really think this week through. I almost didn't feel there would be any time for lyrics of the week. It's been a hectic week for me & even crazier with the holiday Thanksgiving just around the corner. I traded my Monday (which is normally my regular day off) just to be free of work hassles on turkey day & Back Friday is one of my vacation days fortunately. Now if I can only muster up enough strength just to get through these next few days at work & to keep my chin up in the process, I will feel like I've accomplished something of a great feat.

Unfortunately, this is NOT by any means a review of my favorite musician or songwriter this time around. I do, however, have a review & some lists containing commentary on her if you are interested & I would urge you to check them out if you enjoy this song. This time around, I would prefer to isolate just a single piece of her work for close examination & I felt that this is perhaps one of the best songs for the holiday.

There are those of us who don't mind accepting a gift or two every now & then. Most of us fall into this category sadly. We try to live as comfortably as we can & often throw our hands up in the air when we see someone or something that could use our assistance. Some obviously in dire need. Then there are those of us who reach out to others in time of great need & lend that helping hand even when we aren't sure how to keep our own houses in order sometimes. Unfortunately, the people who give from their heart are often overlooked or seemingly forgotten. These are some of the greatest people in the world & they are my heroes. We all know someone in our lives hopefully who matches this description.

Maybe California is a song about mothers. One mother has just lost her husband & she fears that their children will never forgive her for the absence of a father.  Like many mothers, she has great hopes & wishes for her children so it pains her to cry in front of them. From one mother to another, she is able to confide in a great friend who encourages her to be strong in these times of uncertainty & assures her that guardian angels will undoubtedly watch over her.

Although Tori is not a stranger to writing such heartfelt lyrics, this one really hit home. It's not only a song about the broken hearted, California is a song about being there for others & giving them the strength & the courage to get through the most trying times. Maybe California is a song about friendship which somehow manages to survive despite failed marriages, financial difficulties, & other hardships which plague even the best of us.

Most importantly, California is about giving back to those who give time & again. Even those who feel it is far more blessed to give than receive would like to recognized as well. This Thanksgiving, give from your soul & remember to be thankful for everyone around you that compliments your giving spirit. We mustn't let anyone feel that they should go unnoticed especially around this time of year.

As Tori sings, may starlight shine down on every tear in every town. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!! Much love!

Hey Mrs. C, please don't jump
Why not?
Nothing is making sense anymore to me
I don't know when I stopped making him smile
Now the kids see me crying all the time

From one mother to the other
They'll never get over this for their lifetime
All their wishes will be dashed upon those cliffs

So let's be strong for you and me the night is opening
Our angels are falling and they will warm us
She asked right now right here
I'm feeling so (mad dear)

Maybe California
Maybe California

As mothers we have our troubles
You'll leave them with emptiness for their lifetime
All their wishes will be dashed upon those cliffs
So let's be strong you and me the night is opening
Our angels are falling and they will warm us
She asked right now right here
I'm feeling so (mad dear)

Maybe California
Maybe California

Until then there will be starlight shining down
For every tear and every child

nice pick for a 100th review, Brian! Somehow I had a feeling it was going to be along the lines of Tori Amos.
