Stevie Wonder is amazing!!!   In a career spanning nearly a half century at Motown records he has produced some of the finest pop, soul and R&B records of his day.  I cannot think of any other artist who does what Stevie does.  He is a first rate singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist and producerThe Rock and Roll Hall of Fame saw fit to make Stevie one of their earliest inductees way back in 1989.  Over the years he has had dozens of hit singles.

In the heyday of Top 40 radio in the 1960's Stevie Wonder was a fixture.  Who can ever forget the sheer energy of tunes like 1965's "Uptight (Everything's Alright)" or the remarkable "I Was Made to Love Her" from 1967?  Other great tunes from that decade include "A Place in the Sun" and the beautiful "My Cherie Amour" which brings back warm memories of the summer of '69.    The 1970's proved to be a fascinating decade for Stevie as he successfully experimented with a number of new and interesting sounds.  As a result, his music was much more varied as evidenced by hits like "Superstition", "You Are The Sunshine of My Life" and "Boogie on Reggae Woman."    Later in that decade Stevie Wonder had  several more big hits including  "I Wish" and the great "Sir Duke",  Stevie's tribute tune to the legendary Duke Ellington.  Once again, you get a feel for just how creative and talented a writer Stevie Wonder really is.  In the mid-80's, Stevie Wonder struck paydirt again with big hits like "I Just Called To Say I Love You", "Go Home" and the innovative "Skeletons".  And although changing times made it increasingly difficult for Stevie Wonder to continue to churn out hit singles in the 1990's the quality of his music did not decline one bit as evidenced by "For Your Love" and a beautiful tune from 1996 featuring Stevie and Babyface entitled "How Come, How Long".

Stevie Wonder is still out there perfoming today.  In fact, he is coming to my area later this fall.  I would love to see him.   There are any number of great Stevie Wonder collections out there including "The Definitive Collection" and "#1's".   Being such a huge fan, I broke down a number of years ago and purchased the 4 disc anthology box set "Stevie Wonder:  At The Close of A Century".  It is one of the best things I own.   Stevie Wonder is clearly one of the most influential recording artists of the 20th century.   Very highly recommended!

Great Review! I love it when I hear Superstition...one of the all time great songs. I also love Boogie on Reggae Woman. Stevie Wonder is an amazing artist and your review does him justice!

I guess I would qualify as a frustrated writer. My work requires very little writing and so since 1999 I have been writing reviews on non-fiction books and anthology CD's on amazon.com. I never could … more
