From Paris with Love starring John Travolta

This isn't the Paris I know!

  • Jan 28, 2010
“From Paris with Love”, stars John Travolta as Charlie Wax and Jonathan Rhys Meyers as James Reece.  This is a formulaic action movie that you have seen about a million times.  It has action, a love story, and cars blowing up.  Sounds familiar?  Pick any action movie, any action movie at all, and just swap in the explosions and you have “From Paris with Love.”

Charlie Wax is in special ops.  He basically likes to kill people.  Who can really blame him in today’s society. James Reece wants to be in special ops.  He wants to learn how to kill people.  Reece has one job he has to do to get into special Ops.  Be the chauffer for Charlie Wax.  However nobody told him he would be in car chases, or that Wax is a crazy gun totting RPG lugging killer.

I think Charlie Wax might be a wee bit racist.  He starts a gun fight in a Chinese restaurant for no apparent reason.  Maybe he didn't like their food.  For some reason everyone in the Chinese restaurant has a gun.  Is that standard for restaurants in Paris?  Anyways they get in a gun fight with the staff, and  Reese asks Wax “how many more do you think there are” (in reference to the gun fight at the Chinese restaurant).  Wax responds, “…about a billion.”

If you like to watch explosions and Travolta kick ass then this is the movie for you.  Personally I don’t really like Travolta in action movies.  I think he is kind of gross.  But part of that is because of him being a Scientologist.

My prediction is that this movie will be in and out of theaters in 3 weeks.  It just seems boring and predictable.  Wait for Netflix.

This movie has such a pretty name with the potential to be a cult rom-com or chick flick.  Too bad it isn't actually, and too bad... that the plot sounds bad, too.  Great review, Seth!
