I gotta say I like Manny more between the two of them. I'm only up to the middle of season 1 though. I did see an episode a few weeks ago where Gloria got a jar of "peekles" and I lost it when I heard her say it. It's base humor but I can still laugh.

"En Garde" is the name of the seventh episode of the ABC series Modern Family. It premiered on ABC in the United States on November 4, 2009. The episode was written by Danny Zucker and directed by Randall Einhorn. The whole family comes out to support Manny's newfound interest - fencing. It turns out he's quite masterful in the sport, but Jay's proud enthusiasm triggers an old childhood wound for Mitchell. Meanwhile Phil is determined to find where Luke's hidden talents lie.


Manny becomes interested in fencing and the whole family comes out to cheer him on. He is successful but his achievement comes with unexpected and embarrassing results. However, with Jay being so interested in Manny's success at fencing, Mitchell's childhood trauma regarding his ice skating resurfaces. Meanwhile, Phil tries to see if Luke has any hidden talents of his own.


The episode was viewed by 8.770 million viewers and got a Nielsen rating of 5.3/8.
