What a fun video version to the old 1955 classic, "Stand By Me". As this masterfully engineered video takes you around the world, it is cool to see the journey begin and end on the Santa Monica Promenade. Mark Johnson, the creator/director of 'Playing For Change' had the vision for this movement of traveling the world, inspiring people through music in effort of greater uniting people as a human race. The audio/video is done in such a seemingly flawless manner, bringing all of the many versions of the song woven together as one, Mark's hope for us as people...
My particular favorite character is Grandpa Elliot from New Orleans in his denim overalls, I mean, how can Grandpa not put a smile on your face and then for good measure he even hits ya with a little harmonica. Gents like Grandpa Elliot are why I am such a big fan of New Orleans, how great would it be to have a beer and some crawfish with Grandpa and just listen to him tell stories? I also enjoy the Sinamavu choir from Umlazi, South Africa, haven't been there yet though.. It may have been fun had they mixed in a present day Corey Feldman or Keifer Sutherland, who both acted in the movie "Stand By Me" to mix in that part of the history of the song..
'Playing For Change' looks like a really cool multimedia movement and with a great mission of using the universal language of music to bring peace, hope and creating an altogether better world.. For more info, check out www.playingforchange.com, it looks like there is a lot more good stuff to come.. In the words of whoever started the forwarding of this viral video, " it's a real toe-tapper, so turn up the speaker volume and enjoy".

While taveling across Tanzania from Mt. Kilimanjaro westward to the Serengeti plains one of the highlights of our trip was being serenaded by a group of Maasai warriors. Our guide told us that their music was full of hope that one day there would be peace throughout all of Africa. As I watched the "Stand By Me " video I felt a ray of spiritual sunshine because whether it was Grandpa Elliot or the faraway Maasai there will always be voices for peace throughout the world.
I'm all about waving when a car lets me in and not giving door dings. Funny, I don't recall ever giving a door ding, yet I've received tons over the years, hmmm, who are the ones that have … more
