At last a storage container that I can heat up in the oven. Or in the microwave, without fear of harmful chemicals leaching from plastic (with the lid off). When heating in the microwave, the glass does heat up, but not so badly as some pyrex dishes I've had over the years. I bring my lunch to work and often use last night's leftovers, so these are perfect for that. This package of Ziploc VersaGlass Container stacks compactly when empty, and comes in a useful assortment of sizes from small to a medium large. They take extreme temps well and have gone from freezer to oven and back with no problem. The glass is quite chip resistant and has withstood knocking around in the sink without chipping so far.
There are a few drawbacks but none that are deal breakers. Yes, these are expensive, but if you factor in the long term durability and versatile the cost is pretty much offset. Still, for some people a cheap plastic container might be the best option, especially if just for storage. When heating in the microwave, the glass does heat up, but not so badly as some pyrex dishes I've had over the years. If you wait a minute after heating or cover your hand with a napkin, you can handle them easily. The thick plastic lid can be a little tough to remove, though they go on easily. While not quite watertight, as long as they aren't held upside-down they keep food sauces and juices in pretty well. I would not use these to store thin liquids though. One last thing -- the thick glass makes these containers rather heavy. Much more so than regular plastic tupperware. It doesn't bother me, but it is something to keep in mind.
Who is this for? The Ziploc VersaGlass Containers are ideal for people who don't mind spending a bit more for a versatile glass storage/serving container. I find them very useful. They are space saving and should last quite a while. If you need a completely watertight food storage solution then consider Kinetic Glass lock Food-Storage Containers. If you don't need to reheat food in them and just want an inexpensive container, then you may like Kinetic Go Green.
