George Washington served as America's first president from 1789-1797. He was voted in by the Electoral College and is the only president to have been voted in with 100% of the votes. He was offered $25,000 salary, but declined as he wanted to do this for the people. However, he accepted the offer as the role of President did not want to perceived as one only open to those of wealth that could afford to work for no pay.

Washington led the country to a win over Great Britain in the American Revolutionary war. As Washington was one of the most well accepted Presidents of all time and has contributed so much to America as a nation, he is recognized in many ways even in today's society. His face is on the dollar bill and the quarter, carved into Mt. Rushmore and also has the nation's capital named after him.
