It seems as if once you get to college, you need a different outfit for every day and every event. Fashionistas/os always have a lot going on, and every occasion is an opportunity to dress to impress. This is precisely why I love American Apparel. Their designs are so useful: tees for class, leggings for going out, and they even have dance and swim wear! And you can go as unique or basic as you like. Their designs can be enough to stand alone, or perfect with a little help from some amazing accessories. Pair a basic tee under a blazer for a business casual event. Or try colorful leggings or tights for a night out. And you can always find something perfectly comfortable yet chic for yet another day in class. Not to mention that you can do all of this at prices that are perfect for a college student's budget! Try the one in Georgetown if you live in DC and check out collegefashionista.com for more tips on the hottest stores and styles.

xoxo, Ana

Sometimes I still get skeeved-out by AA's incessantly-raunchy ad campaigns and other attention-seeking gestures, but at the end of the day, it's all about the clothes! And I do LOVE them! I think over half of my wardrobe is AA! Thanks for the review!

I'm thinking the same as @devora, I want to see some pictures of your favorite stuff! We sell American Apparel in the store where I work and I LIVE in the deep v-neck tshirts and nylon tricot leggings. Nice review my fellow www.CollegeFashionista.com Guru!

I use to think that AA was too basic for my wardrobe, but after I purchased a couple pieces from a sample sale on HauteLook, I'm a believer!  Thanks for all those awesome suggestions.  I'll be checking them out!  By the way, you should totally add some of those photos to your review! ;)

Good if you need un-convntional clothing for a costume or something...but I wouldn't wear the stuff everyday.

I don't have a single thing from American Apparel, and I feel very out of it because of that! I think I need to jump on the bandwagon!

American Apparel
Perhaps I am becoming a cranky old man, but I am frustrated with the increased prices on everything. lately, especially during this recession.  Since when did a soda at a restaurant become $2.50-$3.00 a glass ... and why are almost all arcade games a dollar, including driving games, where even if you win the race, you don't get to drive again without coughing up another four quarters.    American Apparel launched in 1997, but didn't hit big amongst hipsters until around …

the store everyone loves to hate. Probably because they don't look good in spandex. My numba 1 'til I die.

About this product

Wiki

American Apparel was founded in 1988 by Dov Charney. Although the company produced clothing in Mexican sweatshops early on, all opperations were moved to Los Angeles by 2000, and the brand began to position itself as a progressive corporation. AA employees earn an average of $13 per hour and receive benefits--including healthcare, paid sick and vacation days, company-subsidized lunches, ESL training--not often associated with factory workign conditions.

In 2003, the company began to shift its rhetorical model from "sweatshop free" to "vertically-integrated." The shift highlighted the company's insistence upon designing, producing, and retailing items of clothing at a single site. The model would allow the company to expedite the process of bringing an item of clothing to market while still keeping emphasis on the original values of made-in-the-US production.

A fortune 500 company, American Apparel exceded $124 million in revenue for 2004. The company has opened retail locations througout the United States, Canada, and western Europe, as well as a handful of stores in Mexico, Korea, Israel.
