Art for the bath

This American Standard Reliant 3 Single Control Centerset Lavatory faucet replaces a 25-year-old Delta model in my art studio bath.

I was delighted with the package. The unit is a nice heavyweight shiny chrome with high quality braided fleexible hoses with 3/8 inch compression connectors. The unit is manufactured in Mexico-not a plus in my book-but it looks to be of good quality.

Unique to American Standard is the Speed Connect Drain which offers fewer parts and no adjustments needed.

In the box, along with the faucet/supply line unit is the drain and connecting pipe and several sets of installation instructions. I had to wade through Spanish and French before getting to the English pages. No mind. The instructions come with a cut-away or exploded view, the pop-up drain installation, cable connection and supply/waste line connections. A separate sheet instructs in the stopper installation with sections on service for hot water-to-cold ratio and care instructions.

Other pluses: a ceramic disc valve promises smooth handle operation and drip-free performance and the unit has a metal lever handle. There is also a cast brass waterway assuring long life.

In reading over the seven pages I determined they were thorough and easy enough for a novice to install, however, I'll save the project for my husband who has lots of experience in drain/faucet installation.

I look forward to using this attractive faucet set which is a far superior one to the set presently in the bath. After installation is complete I'll report on how it operates.

My husband/handyman installed the faucet yesterday and declares the instructions the best, most thorough he's ever seen. Everything was detailed for simplicity. Innovations worth noting: metal bolts have been replaced by hand-tightenable large plastic ones and a foam replaces the old style plumber's putty for seating the drain.

He was replacing a 25-year-old Delta set that we installed when we built the bathroom. The only problem--a minor one--was that the hot water inlet line is somewhat removed from the fixture and required a longer length.

Altogether, the job was completed in half an hour and the new fixture looks and operates beautifully. Highly recommended for quality and ease of installation.

This is not only very nice to look at but it feels sturdy and heavy, nothing worse than a flimsy piece of bath or kitchen appliance. This is a very nice faucet and I love the one handle bar, very easy and convenient when you don't have the time to fumble with knobs and temperature settings, I've used this style since I was a kid growing up in Poland and I'm still a fan.

I was really impressed with how easy this faucet was to install. I've put in a couple of bathroom faucets in the past, and the worst part was getting the pop-up drain to function properly. It always took a lot of adjusting (and swearing) and even then it would not always work well.    This particular model has a unique system for the pop-up. There's a cable with a plastic hood that screws on to a port on the drain pipe stem. That's it! No levers, stems or clips to deal with. …
